Norwich Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in Norwich, Norfolk, dedicated to the Holy and Undivided Trinity. It is the cathedral church for the Church of England Diocese of Norwich and is one of the Norwich 12 heritage sites. The cathedral was begun in 1096 and constructed out of flint and mortar and faced with a cream-coloured Caen limestone. An Anglo-Saxon settlement and two churches were demolished to make room for the buildings. The cathedral was completed in 1145 with the Norman tower still seen today topped with a wooden spire covered with lead. Episodes of damage necessitated rebuilding and the stone spire was erected in 1480. The bosses of Norwich Cathedral are one of the world's greatest mediaeval sculptural treasures that survived the iconoclasm of the Tudor and English Civil War periods. The bosses in the cloisters include hundreds that are carved and ornately painted. Norwich Cathedral has the second largest cloisters in England, only exceeded by those at Salisbury Cathedral. The cathedral close is one of the largest in Europe and has more people living within it than any other close. The cathedral spire, measuring at 315 ft (96 m), is the second-tallest in England (also second to Salisbury) despite being partly rebuilt after being struck by lightning in 1169, 23 months after its completion, which led to the building being set on fire. Measuring 461 ft (141 m) and 177 ft (54 m) wide at completion, Norwich Cathedral was the largest building in East Anglia. It once had the earliest astronomical clock in England.

From Medieval to modern day, the Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell tells the story of Norwich's industries and the people who lived and worked here. The Bridewell was, as its name suggests, a prison and house of correction for beggars and women. The old prison building has been transformed into a museum of local history, spread over two floors, arranged around the inner courtyard of this historic building. HISTORY Around 1325 a wealthy merchant named Geoffrey de Salle built a house here, near St Andrew's church. In 1386 the house was enlarged by William Appleyard, who went on to become the first mayor of Norwich (1403-1435). Very little of the original 14th-century building survives, save the flintwork facade facing onto Bridewell Alley. This is one of the earliest, and finest, examples of secular East Anglian flintwork in England. Under the building is another 14th-century survival; the vaulted undercroft, used for storage and to hold inmates when the house became a prison. The Bridewell must have been a very desirable property, as by the 16th century it was owned by another Mayor of Norwich, Robert Gardener. Then in 1580, it was sold to the Corporation of Norwich by John Sotherton. https://www.museums.norfolk.gov.uk/museum-of-norwich

Easily accessible, on the edge of the city....find the right spot and there's excellent views from this high vantage point. A unique 88 hectare (184 acre) area made up of heathland, woodland and recreational open space located in the north of Norwich. It is the largest local nature reserve managed by Mousehold Conservators, prized for its wildlife and is a place where people can go to unwind from the pace of city life. Norwich City Council owns the land, support the Conservators and deliver services on their behalf. History In Tudor times, Mousehold Heath stretched as far north as South Walsham and was 22 miles round. The surviving remnant of the heath was given to Norwich City Council (then known as the local corporation) to look after on behalf of the citizens of Norwich in 1880. This was officially recorded by Parliament in an agreement called the Mousehold Heath Confirmation Act. In 1884, Mousehold Heath Conservators, an independent governing body for the heath, was formed. Up until the early 1900s, Mousehold Heath was open countryside with few trees - a classic heathland landscape. The area was kept open by grazing animals and by local people collecting bedding and feed for livestock and fuel for the winter. As the way people lived changed, these traditions disappeared. This resulted in a gradual loss of open heath to scrub and woodland. The site is now mostly covered by broad-leaved semi-natural woodland, although some areas of heath remain and are actively managed Mousehold is part of north Norfolk's Heathland Heritage Project and has been funded through the Heritage Lottery Tomorrow's Heathland Heritage Project. The project aims to re-establish open areas of heather and gorse.

A lovely, calm green space in the city centre. With plenty of space to relax and recline, and magnificent flower beds, it’s the perfect space to escape the bustle of the city. The band stand in the centre of the park is often used for events and concerts, and is a stunning architectural feature. There is a children’s play area, so the little ones can burn off some energy, and plenty of open lawns to run around in. A small foodstand offers coffee, snacks, and ice cream, and there is also a larger restaurant for sit down meals.

One of Norwich’s great treasures, a 3 acre Grade II English Heritage registered garden established over 100 years ago in an abandoned chalk quarry, 600 yards from the city centre. Huge gothic fountain, flower beds, lawns, Italianate terrace, ‘Medieval’ terrace wall, woodland walkways, 10 metre long Victorian-style greenhouse and rustic bridge. The garden is heavily wooded and provides a habitat for wildlife, making it a haven of peace and tranquillity and a glimpse into a bygone age. Also called the Secret Garden, it’s easy to find, beside the Roman Catholic Cathedral on Earlham Road.

Should you see something in our centre that offends you then please feel free to leave, anything offensive to you is not necessarily offensive to others and does not represent the views of our dealers, we request that you kindly keep your views to yourself and those closest to you and please do not try to discredit us on our social media, we hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful church and treasure trove of the past.

Great stop if you're shopping in the market / city centre shopping area. it's slightly hidden - so you might need to ask, or use maps to find it. They show football, rugby etc. both indoors and in the courtyard.
Really nice, chilled out place (whether you're doing the theatre or not). The bar serves the Norwich Playhouse theatre (so can be crowded before performances and at the interval!), with a large tree-shaded patio by the river. Serves three or four ales including a couple of locals and an eclectic selection of guests. The bar features a 3D city-scape on the ceiling(!) and comfortable seating. There is also a good-szied lounge across the foyer.

You have to experience it to believe it! 🤔 A bar like no other in one of the old streets of Norwich, close to the centre but not quite central... there are other cafes and bars nearby such as the brilliant 'Bicycle Shop' and St Andrews Brew House just down the street.
