This is one of the attractions those living in Austin are expected to know about, so it is a good tourist option and for locals too. Though it is called "Mount," there are no true mountains--only hills--in Austin. It is only 780 feet above sea level and the trail is .3 miles long. Still, despite the short distance measurement-wise, it feels like more distance because of the slope. This is one of Austin's oldest attractions, since it has been enjoyed since the 1800's. Parking is limited and sometimes you have to wait for a spot to open up. Friday hours for the viewing platform are currently 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. County Line on the Lake is a nearby restaurant we often visit when in that area because it's close and has the rustic feel of the area. The restaurant has a view, and BBQ just the right complement.
