The Cod and Lobster pub is just a few doors away from our cottage. A key tip is to watch the world go by out of the living room window and watch for when an outside table becomes avaliable during busy months. Extremely popular due to it's stunning location, with fabulous views of the harbour. The cod serves good pub food, including lots of seafood, vegetarian and gluten free options. They also serve takeaway. In peak times (usually school holidays) there are no bookings, so it is first come first served. Out of these times please book well in advance as The Cod is very popular. The outdoor tables cannot be booked in advance.

The Cobbles not only has a small gift shop, but also sells great ice creams, milkshakes, fudge, pasties and lite bites. They have recently opened an upstairs sitting area, where you can watch the world go by. The Cobbles pizza nights are very popular, making artisan pizzas for takeaway, with quirky varieties, such as 'surf and turf' and 'all day breakfast'. They even do gluten free. See their FB page for avaliable nights and book in advance by pooping over to the cobbles.

We simply love this 'sweet emporium' and so will children or those young at heart. A traditional sweet shop, with stunning decor. Next door they have a fabulous deli, which resembles Aladdin's cave and specialises in Spanish and Italian produce. There is a great selection of wines for special occasions.

The Cleveland way is a 110 mile footpath, running between Helmsley and Filey and passing through Staithes. We thoroughly recommend following the 3 mile coastal section of the trail from Staithes to Runswick bay. If you have young children then perhaps cut the walk short at Port Mulgrave. From the cottage walk to The Cod and then up Church Street and you are on the route. This walk is steep at the beginning, but worth if for the views. If you make it to Runswick bay and want a bus back there is the X4 from outside Runswick Bay Hotel and it runs regularly.

Enjoy a round of adventure golf on the edge of the North York moors. We found this exceptionally good value and there is a fantastic playground, cafe and Jack and Jill coaching Inn and pub. This is also opposite Scaling dam.

We love walking along the Cleveland way to Runswick bay and rewarding ourselves with a stop off at the Royal Hotel. It has the most beautiful views of Runswick bay, roaring log fires and excellent pub food.
