Crazy Horse Memorial is the world's largest sculpture-in-progress, and frequent drilling and mountain blasts make each visit unique. When completed, Crazy Horse Memorial will stand 563 feet tall by 641 feet long. The project was started in 1948 at the request of Chief Henry Standing Bear who invited sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski to carve a mountain to honor the heritage, tradition and culture of North American Indians. Its namesake, Crazy Horse, was a war leader of the Oglala Lakota Tribe and a prominent leader in the Sioux resistance to white encroachment on the Black Hills. He is revered by the Sioux as one of their greatest leaders. The visitors' complex surrounding the mountain carving includes the Indian Museum of North America, the Native American Cultural Center, the Sculptor's studio home and workshop, a 40,000 square foot Orientation Center and two theaters. https://crazyhorsememorial.org

Very few people have had a full-grown black bear look in the window of their family car, or if they have, it was not by choice. Even fewer have seen a reindeer or a elk up close. Nestled over 200 acres amidst towering pines and along rolling meadows just eight miles south of Rapid City, Bear Country U.S.A. offers visitors intimate views of most North American mammals. Visitors take a leisurely three-mile drive through several enclosures and encounter black bear, elk, reindeer, deer, cougars, bobcats, rocky mountain goats, bighorn sheep, dall sheep, pronghorn and buffalo. At this “the home of the largest collection of privately owned black bear in the world”, Bear Country U.S.A. guests are guaranteed to see more than they bargained for. From the comfort of their own car, visitors watch as these clowns of nature frolic in a pool, climb trees and amble across the road in front of their vehicle. Allow 2-3 hours for this activity. There are plenty of attractions for families to take in at Reptile Gardens. Stroll through our garden oasis of colorful flowers, lush vegetation, and well manicured lawns. Discover a myriad of ornamental trees, tropical plants, orchids, and bromeliads. Meet our exotic residents! Enjoy a chance encounter with our notorious saltwater crocodile, visit our legendary collection of venomous snakes, or pet our gentle giants, the Galapagos and Aldabra Tortoises. We also have a few non-reptilian pets – a majestic Bald Eagle named Cheyenne and a coterie of fun loving Prairie Dogs. Take in a show - watch the alligators and crocodiles do their thing, learn about snakes, or meet birds from around the world. Have fun and enjoy the day! Exceptional hospitality and clean, neat, well-kept grounds are our top priorities. Earl (the park's patriarch) believed that you can never offer your Guests enough hospitality, nor can your facility be clean enough.
