Sightseeing

Burrator is a large reservoir located just outside Yelverton in a place called Dousland. Park up and walk the road that navigates around the reservoir or walk up off the road where there are plenty of trails to follow. A really lovely destination.

Bellever Forest is a fantastic location to park the car and either sit by the river or walk up to the top of Bellever Tor. You’ll feel like you are in a bit of Canada on Dartmoor with all the Christmas trees. A lovely location you must take the time to visit if you can.

Another place in Plymouth which is worth a visit if you are planning which can be coupled with a walk up to the Hoe, ice cream, fish and chips and perhaps a little glass of something. See where the Mayflower sailed from if you like a bit of history too.

If you drive into plymouth, you can park near to Royal William Yard and take the foot ferry over to Mount Edgbcume - this has some nice walks in the gardens, a tea shop, some craft shops to mooch around and is by the water.

Grenofen has some nice walks along the river – lots of picnicking and paddling opportunities. If you park and cross back over the bridge and take the turning to the left alongside the wedding venue, it will take you to the other side of the river. Follow the river along to Double Waters (where River Tavy and Walkham River) meet. It really is a lovely walk with lots of amazing scenery.

Pork Hill is found by taking the A386 out of Tavistock towards Mary Tavy, take the Mount Tavy road and follow this along until you get to the top of the hill where there is a large car park on right. It’s very popular and gives some spectacular views across Dartmoor – somewhere to eat your fish and chips or grab an ice cream from the van).

Food scene

Pizzas with a cycling theme. Half price pizza on a Sunday night and a Gin bar outside – recommend! You can eat inside or outside and they do some very good cocktails!

Two Bridges Hotel and The Bedford Hotel are sister hotels. The Bedford is located in the centre of the Town and serves a very nice pot of coffee/ tea (and a cream tea if you fancy). Their sister hotel, Two Bridges, is located on Dartmoor (if you follow the Mount Tavy Road). You can sit inside or outside and they serve a nice selection of food.

our personal favourite is from JS Downing Butchers. If you definitely want to secure your order, you can call them and they will cook them to order so you don’t arrive and suffer disappointment because they’ve sold out. For the record, their sausage rolls are also epic not to mention their scotch eggs.
