Local Transportation in Playa del Carmen
Take colectivos (shared vans) instead of taxis to get around the local Playa del Carmen area and to save money on transportation. Each one way trip costs 10 pesos. Make sure to have small bills in case the driver needs to make change for you.

Bring Comfortable Clothes and Shoes to Walk Around In
As the temperature is usually hot in Playa del Carmen during the day (85•Fahrenheit / 28•Celsius), you should wear clothes you don’t mind sweating a little in and shoes you are comfortable walking in as you will likely be waking around a lot. I usually wear active wear with sneakers or sundresses with sandals.

Take the ADO Bus
I recommend taking the ADO bus to/from the airport rather than a taxi because it will save you a lot of money. The airport bus only costs USD $10 compared to the USD $50-$100 taxis charge. It’s a safe, clean and comfortable ride. You can also take the ADO bus nationally throughout Mexico to places such as Cancun city, Tulum, Holbox, Bacalar, etc. I take these buses all the time and have saved hundreds of dollars because of it :) The bus website is ado.com.mx
