Most popular site to visit in Colorado Springs. Great site for pictures year round, with hiking trails and great views. Great to drive through, visit and with great hiking trails. The park’s famous red rocks are conglomerates of red, pink, and white sandstones and limestone. You can travel back in time to learn more about the history of these rock formations by watching an entertaining 15-minute film during your visit to the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center. Be sure to try a bison burger at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post, nestled in the southwest corner of the Garden of the Gods Park near the Balanced Rock entrance. This Trading Post Colorado's largest and most extensive gift facility and gallery. Prices and variety of gift items / souvenirs are excellent. For additional information, visit www.gardenofgods.com

Pikes Peak is America's Mountain (where the song "America the Beautiful" was penned). This 14er can be seen from anywhere in Colorado Springs and is popularly known as America's mountain Experience the mountain up close by driving Pikes Peak Highway to the 14,115-ft. summit of Pikes Peak. This scenic highway, is a spectacular toll road that winds its way up the mountain to the peak. Or take the Cog Railway all the way up to the peak from Manitou Springs and catch a glimpse of pristine reservoirs nestled among the peaks of the Front Range, with gorgeous views and perhaps even see some big horned sheep on the slopes. There are several hiking options for exploring Pikes Peak for the truly brave. Barr Trail is the most popular way to reach the summit of the mountain (if you don't wipe out from altitude sickness), as well as Devil's Playground via The Crags. For additional information, visit www.pikespeakcolorado.com.

Whether you dig steep inclines or peaceful, contemplative walks, Red Rock Canyon offers hiking for all. The steeper trails begin deeper in the park and can be reached by navigating some of the less difficult areas. However, once you reach them, you’ll be connected to even more trails of high difficulty that can take you to places beyond Red Rock Canyon. Venture to Manitou Springs via Intemann Trail, wander into Bear Creek Park using the Palmer Redrock Trail or delve into the twists and turns of Section 16 via the appropriately named Section 16 Trail. Not everyone is cut out for long, intense hikes — and that is totally okay! At Red Rock Canyon, there are several gentle hikes close to the parking lot that weave amongst the rock features and take you past the quarry. Despite its proximity to the parking area and the highway, a brief walk into the park will make all that chaos fall away and you’ll soon be immersed in nature. Runners also love these systems for the well-packed terrain and gentle grades. More info at : www.pikes-peak.com/red-rock-open-space/

Cars are the recommended way to get around the city.

There are plenty of parks and open spaces for hiking and biking in and around the area. As Colorado is considered semi-arid, be sure to bring water bottles to keep hydrated, and always have an extra layer of clothing handy in your car as the weather can turn easily.
