Furman Univeristy is just up the road from our place. The campus consistently makes top-10 lists for most beautiful campuses, and is open to the public. Lovely walking path around the Furman lake has lots of spots to stop and watch the swans, enjoy a swing, or check out unique campus spots like an exact replica of Throeau's cabin at Walden pond. There is also a disc-golf course here (bring your own equipment).

Falls Park downtown is our city's little "Central Park". :) Besides the famous Liberty Bridge arching across Reedy Falls, other gorgeous landscaping, walking paths, and art galleries wind along the river. Free outdoor performances in the summer, and a general gathering spot for the city.

More than a source for food -- this is a local community gathering spot. Thier motto is "Eat Local, Ride Bikes". Both the cafe and grocery feature mainly local, organic foods. Expansive outdoor seating right on the Swamp Rabbit bike trail. Don't miss their "stecca" bread, its amazing!

This award-winning local brewery has some great selections, and is right next to the excellent "White Duck Taco" if you are hungry. Outdoor seating, kid-friendly. Several other interesting shops in this spot, including the opportunity to do "craft axe throwing"!

Nature / Hiking

Just a few minutes drive from our place, Paris Mountain State Park is a gem of our city. Easy hikes for families, including around a beautiful lake with a swimming area and paddleboat rentals.

A lesser-known spot just north of Traveler's Rest, this small nature preserve protects one of the only populations of the endangered "bunched arrowhead" flower. An easy hiking trail of about 2 miles winds through meadows and woodland. Great birding spot.

This is the best birding location I know of -- A large nature park on the Reedy River, south of downtown, with various hiking paths winding through varied terrain. Also has a large playground, playing fields, picnic areas. Amazing native plant sale takes place here each Spring.

Kids / Families

Also in the "Heritage Green" center downtown, this is really one of the best children's museums I have been too -- As good as the ones you will find in the "big city", but much less expensive and less crowded. Best for younger kids up to age 8 -- all kinds of interactive exhibits.

Small but lovely zoo with shaded paths -- focuses on smaller animals, but does have giraffes, lions, orangutans, and a few other larger animals. Easy to see the animals, not crowded.

Be on the lookout for special events...

Throughout the year, Greenville hosts a few public festivals that bring out the whole town. In Fall, don't miss "Fall for Greenville", with live music and beer gardens. In Summer, we host "Artisphere", an arts festival and market that draws makers from all around the region. Check out the city's events schedule here to see what is going on: https://www.visitgreenvillesc.com/events

Check out Travelers Rest too!

The small town to the north of Greenville, Traveler's Rest, is also very worth your time. This quaint main street is lined with boutiques, great restaurants, and parks. Only about a 10-15min drive north of our house. Try the crepes at Tandem creperie (sold out of a vintage VW camper), but watch out for long lines on Sunday! History buffs might enjoy the very small Travelers Rest History Museum on the outskirts of the town, which gives a sense of what life was like in this area before our recent development boom.
Samgöngur

We have Uber

In most locations outside of the downtown center, you have to drive to get anywhere. (While there is a city bus, the routes are pretty limited). Greenville does have Uber service -- you have to wait a few more minutes for a car to arrive than in the big city (often a 10-15min wait), but this can be a reliable alternative to driving yourself.
