Local pubs

A good village pub with a lovely beer garden. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Coffee available to take away during opening hours. Limited seating indoors but lots outside. They offer takeaway pizza after 3pm some days or you can dine in. Directions: Turn left out of the farm entrance, then right at the end of the lane onto Ivy Lane. Drive for about 1 mile into Great Brickhill and the pub is on the left. You can also walk - Ivy Lane has no footway or lighting this side of the village but there’s a footpath which starts on Ivy Lane, almost opposite Bragenham Lane. Total walking distance is about 1.5 miles.

We love the Three Locks. It’s a canalside pub and restaurant. Lots of tables outside facing the canal. Directions: Walkable from the farm – you will need to follow the public footpath just below the farmhouse. Or take a left out of the farm, left onto Ivy Lane. It’s just after the humpback bridge.

Previously a family-owned Italian restaurant it is now a pub serving British food “with a slight Mediterranean twist” on what was once a Roman road. Directions: Drive into Great Brickhill, and immediately after the Old Red Lion pub take a right up the hill (Pound Hill). Continue along this road (single track in places) for about 1.5 miles – you will reach a T-junction. Turn right towards Woburn and the George is about 50m along on the right.

The Dolphin reopened under new management in 2022 and is popular for miles around. Lots of seating indoors and out, expansive drinks and food menu. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but it's walkable from the farm (about 30 minutes).

Sightseeing

Rushmere and Stockgrove Country Parks: footpath starts at the end of Bragenham Lane – turn left out of the farm, walk to the end of the lane (200 yards) and the entrance is on the right. You can also drive here – entrance is at the other end of Bragenham Lane and signposted from there. Parking costs £6 for the day. This is a 400-acre forest with walking trails, bridle ways and cycle paths (permit needed for these two). The Tree Tops Café Kiosk overlooks Heron nests in the trees surrounding the lake. This was recently featured on BBC’s Countryfile. There is also a visitor centre and two outdoor play areas. Currently the café and visitor centre are closed but there is a kiosk selling hot and cold drinks, cake and ice cream. The public toilets are open. Towards Heath and Reach, Rushmere becomes Stockgrove - there is a café and toilets here too, with more picnic tables.

Hvað á að taka með

Bring good outdoor shoes

The great outdoors can be muddy so bring suitable footwear - the long grass on the farm and local footpaths can get you quite messy in wet weather.
