Lovely for walking with or without a dog.

Many clearly defined paths thorough pine trees and deciduous woods. Being in the Brecks the ground is sandy so most walks are not muddy even in wet weather. However there is only one pond and no other sources of water so it’s best to carry a bottle of water on warm days.

Sightseeing

This is the only genuine Anglo-Saxon village in the U.K. it was recreated on the site of an original settlement about 40 years ago. The little museum is very interesting giving a good overview of the history of the area.. unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the village though they are welcome in the cafe. There is also a great playground for children and lots of things for them to do in the museum during the holidays . Re-enactment weeks ends are good fun!

Bury is 5 miles from West Stow and well worth a visit or two just to explore the medieval streets, the cathedral and the Abbey gardens. The shops and restaurants are also excellent with lots of independently owned businesses. There are two cinemas, the multi plex and the Abbeygate, a lovely little cinema on Hatter Street. The latter has a great cafe/ bistro and it is certainly worth checking out what’s on as it’s one of the prettiest cinemas in England. In town there is also the 18th century Theatre Royal which is a rare survival with its boxed seating. The Apex is noted for its great acoustics and there is always a varied program of events throughout the year.

Punting is easy and fun. If you don’t feel like doing it yourself there are always lots of young people selling trips who will happily take you up and down the river. We like eating at the Michaelhouse cafe in the centre of Cambridge near Trinity college.

Garden- Fullers Mill

This is one of the best gardens in the area. The work of one man, Bernard Tickner, who gathered plants from round the world to transform this small corner of woodland. With the river flowing through it and a nice little cafe it is an excellent spot to while away a few hours. Dogs not admitted.

Southwold

Great little town on the coast. Sandy beaches, brightly coloured beach huts, a fun pier, lots of shops, pubs etc and a great walk between Southwold and Warbleswick.

Book in advance for a meal inside the mill itself. Lovely atmosphere and interesting menus. They sometimes to do a very good value early bird menu if you booked before 7.30pm.

Probably the best restaurant in Bury and the place to go for a special meal. Booking is essential. Tables at the front of the restaurant are nicest.
