Twelve man-made caves have been discovered on the land of Ægissíða by Hella on the South coast of Iceland. Four of them have been open to the public. The historical site is Iceland's oldest still standing archaeological remains. Some believe the caves to date even further back than the settlement of the Nordic Vikings. The wonders of the Caves of Hella include ancient crosses, wall carvings and carved seats.

not as many people know about this one but it is a little bit inside of the same cliff that Seljalandsfoss falls off from.

Activities

It has a very unique environment with the flat land and black beach stretching as far as the eyes can see. It is a long walkwith a little touch of history at the end of it where you will come at a crashed plane from the WW II.

Only 20 minutes away is this beautiful waterfall that you can walk behind of. Take an umbrella, wear a raincoat and boots or you might get wet! ☔

25 minutes away is the ferry Herjólfur that takes you to the Westman island. A small town on an island just off the shore of Iceland, it's also an active volcano that last erupted in 1973. You can still feel the warmth on the soil and even melted my shoe from walking there! An awesome local activity is to "sprang" on the cliffs (must try if visited!).

You will ride in  small group rides in the beautiful landscape of southern Iceland.  They specialize in rides for small groups which are seldom bigger than 6 riders. You receive instructions on how to ride and you  have a chance to get to know your horse before you leave for your ride with them. All this takes place in their modern and large riding hall. You are invited for a coffee, tea or hot chocolate in their cozy stable café after the ride. It is also possible for non riders to wait in the stable café while you ride.  You will be riding a well educated horse with a good tölt who is fun to ride. They have horses for more experienced riders as well as some very trustworthy horses for beginners and even those who have never ridden before. You will find them located about 20 minute drive from the cottage.
