A great wine-tasting experience and Duplin often has great live music. We recommend hopping on Groupon, because you can book a tasting for a great price there when they are offering a coupon. Duplin Winery features muscadine wine, a super sweet wine, which is a specialty of the area. We will have a bottle in the fridge if you want to sample before you go to the tasting.

This place is super close to River Retreat and it is super good! We love their tacos, and the smoothered chimi. We often get their takeout after grabbing some groceries from Lowe's Foods, right next door.

It is a gorgeous garden that you could spend days in. We love taking our toddler here, as they have an outdoor zoo with animals native to the area and a great playground. We are from here, so anything Dolly Parton touches is gold -- but this actually is gold! The food is great and the entertainment is amazing for young and old! You will not be disappointed. We love Medieval Times as well, but Pirates Voyage is our recommendation out of the two.

Really any putt putt golf place you find will be a fun night out with your family, a golf buddy outing, or a date night, but you would be remiss if you came to Myrtle Beach and didn't schedule a night for mini golf. We definitely recommend night golfing in the middle of summer. :)

A great place for food and views! It tends to get crowded down here, so we recommend to get down here early for food. Mojos and Dead Dog Saloon are our favorite restaurants down here. River City Cafe is fun for casual dining as well.

Drive up to Calabash for authentic, fresh off the boat shrimp. You will see all sorts of places in Myrtle Beach that have crab legs (not from SC -- from Alaska ;), but if you want the real deal, head here! One of our food recommendations is from Calabash.

If you're still hungry, head to Bonfire for dinner overlooking the river (we highly recommend the ribs).

If you want to spend a day in Conway, we highly recommend this restaurant. They are Vegetarian and Vegan friendly as well!. Everything is farm-to-table. If it's a pretty day, we definitely recommend eating on the porch

Best ribs in the area and you can get a good pulled pork plate here too! Also, you can dine with a river view on the open-air deck. Make sure you leave time for a romantic walk on the Riverwalk afterwards, or take the kids to Rivertown Park.

Our favorite lunch here is the fruited chicken salad on their homemade sourdough, along with the homemade chips, and don't forget the sweet tea! The restaurant is small, so we don't recommend for large parties. It's only open for breakfast and lunch.

Best place to go if you want to try a "low country boil" or get some "peel and eat shrimp." It's our oyster spot too, but remember, oyster roasts are for all months that end in "r," so if you're in the summer, we don't recommend the oysters. Come back this winter and grab at least a bushel of oysters! We will have the oyster pot and roaster ready for you. :)

Put Sea Captain's House in your GPS, and the parking lot directly across is huge and offers more spots than driving down Ocean Blvd. waiting for a spot to open up in the traditional beach access spots (although, those are all great as well!). It is also close to great food, and a Starbucks is not far away at the Caribbean Resort. All parking in Myrtle Beach is paid, but if you plan on going the beach every day for several days, it may be worth looking into a 7 day pass from the city for metered parking. Here's some info: Costs $30.00 (not to be used in decal-only restricted parking); passes are available from Lanier Parking in the Pavilion Parking Garage (843-626-7275). One last tip: get to parking early, no matter where you go on the beach. If you're going to have a beach day, it's best to get to your beach access early and stake out a good spot in the parking lot (under a shade tree is preferable) and a good spot in the sand!

Avoid Highway 501
We are in a great location as far as travel goes. We are centrally located between North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach, and if you go up International Drive, you have quick access to 17 N and 17 S, as well as 31 (which takes you to the south end of the beach with little traffic). In short, if you GPS your way from our house, you should avoid some of the heavier traffic spots.
One thing to note, if you are going into Downtown Conway, you will travel on "Highway 501 Business" -- this road can get crowded during commuter hours, but is not the major Highway 501 that we warn you about above.
