This National nature reserve is one of Wales' top sand-dune reserves, with all the special plants, birds and insects that depend on this type of coastal habitat for their suvival. Situated on the edge of the reserve is Kenfig Pool, Glamorgan's largest lake. The rest of the reserve consists of a large expanse of sand dunes which lead to the coast and Sker Point, with lovely views across Swansea Bay to the Gower. On the western side of the reserve is the stark horizon of Port Talbot's industrial area and steelworks - a strange contrast that only serves to highlight the wild beauty of the reserve itself. Toilets on site, dogs welcome open daily. Postcode: CF334PT

Gower was the first place in Britain to be named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. With cliffs and woodlands ringed by sparkling beaches, the Gower peninsula is so adored by walkers, birdwatchers, sunbathers and surfers, it’s been scooping awards ever since. 70-square-miles of (180sq km) paradise.

City/town information

Like many small towns, Neath has a warm tight-knit community feel. As well as the busy town centre, Neath also has a relaxed and quiet surrounding neighbourhood, making it a perfect area for those that like a quiet life. When it comes to hospitality, Neath has significantly improved over the last few years. The city centre now boasts a handful of great restaurants, coffee shops and bars to fill your evenings and weekends. We particularly love Moruzzi’s, Ten21 and Charlie’s. Many people in surrounding parts of Wales are unaware of Neath’s natural beauty. From the Gnoll, Victoria Gardens, Aberdulais Falls, Afan Forrest Park and Aberavon beach just up the road, there’s plenty to keep you active and enjoying the outdoors. Did you know, The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) was formed at a meeting held at the Castle Hotel in Neath in 1881?!

Brecon is a bustling market town right at the top edge of the glorious Brecon Beacons National Park. It's known for the famous Brecon Jazz Festival, independent shops and cafés, history, military connections and of course, the magnificent cathedral. Brecon is the perfect base for exploring the national park, watersports and fishing in the local rivers, canal and lakes, plus cycling and mountain biking.
