This Pad Thai 5 Rod is one of my favorite restaurants. There are 3 branches in the old city. The Pad Thai is served on a banana leaf and it comes with a side dish (chive, sprouts, lime, and banana blossom). The price for a small dish is 35 baht (around 1 dollar). You can also try Pad Thai wrapped with egg which cost a bit more. DISCLAIMER: This review is based on my personal opinion only. I come here for coconut ice cream not beef noodle. The Blue Noodle restaurant is famous for its tasty beef noodle soup and home made beef balls but not many people know that the coconut ice cream here is one of the best home made coconut ice cream. Be aware that it's home made and sometimes (just sometimes) the ice cream is not in stock so I suggest you ask before order. It cost 40 THB for 2 scoops and it comes with peanuts. Southern food has a unique flavor that every Thai people love because Southern Thailand used to be the maritime trade center for many traders from India, China, and Java. Especially traders from South India who introduced the original cooking spices and they made a great influence on cooking spicy Thai food. With that being said, typical southern Thai food is a combination of Thai food, Indian food, and Malaysian food. Therefore, southern Thai food has a more spicy taste than other regions. Built during 1296 - 1297 A.D by Phya Mungrai, Wat Chiang Mun was the first royal temple built in the vicinity to Chiang Mai's ancient city, on the former Wiang Chiang Mun Palace donated by Phya Mungrai. Wat Phra Singh Woramahaviharn is a Buddhist temple located in the western part of the old city of Chiang Mai. Built in 1345, this temple houses an important Buddha statue called the Phra Buddha Sihing which gives the temple its name. The origin of this statue are unknown but according to the legend, it was based on the lion of Shakya, a statue since lost which used to be housed in the Mahabodhi Temple of Bodh Gaya (India). The Phra Buddha Sihing statue was supposed to have been brought via Ceylon (Sri Lanka) to Ligor (Nakhon Sri Thammarat) and from there via Ayutthaya to Chiang Mai. From 1578 - 1774, the Burmese ruled Lanna and the temple was abandoned. In 1920, the whole complex was renovated by the famous monk Khru Ba Srivichai. The original head of the statue was stolen in 1922. The complex attractions: Wihan Luang, Wihan Lai Kham, Ubosot, Hor Trai, Phrathat Luang, and Kulai Chedi. The construction began between 1385 and 1402 and was the tallest building in the Lanna Kingdom (82 meters high and 54 meters wide). The Emerald Buddha (Thailand's most sacred relic) was moved to this temple from Lampang in 1468 until 1552. Due to an earthquake in 1545, the site has been reconstructed multiple times but never finish until today.
