Sightseeing

It has the most spectacular view of Dubrovnik reachable either by cable car or taxi or walking. There is also a fort that serves as a war museum, worth visiting. In addition it has a lovely restaurant where you can dine with gorgeous view, especially during sunset. Please note that reservations are required as it is rather busy, also I recommend to go by cable car due to heavy traffic.

Lovrjenac is a fortress located on a cliff outside the outer walls on the west side of Dubrovnik, 37 m above sea level. I would recommend to take a bottle of water as it takes a certain amount of stairs to reach it and it is included in the price of the City Walls of Dubrovnik. Also Game of Thrones fans will recognise Fort Lovrjenac as the Red Keep of the King’s Landing where many scenes where filmed. It is definitely worth a climb!

Step into magnificent history of Dubrovnik Republic - Ragusa! There are a range of mini exhibitions on the history of Dubrovnik and the palace itself. Additionally, the architecture is spectacular - built around a beautiful central courtyard with grand steps climbing upwards, and lovely walkways giving it all a very spacious feel. The museum is included in the museum pass, which also grants entry to a number of other small museums around the old town, definitely worth buying.

Gunduliceva Poljana ( Gundulic Square ) is the open - air market in Dubrovnik that has numerous stalls full of seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as other local products like dried lavender, lavender oil, locally produced Grappa, and other fantastic brandies. The market is opened every morning and close in the afternoon ( 12:00 AM ), so if you would like to visit and browse around, you should get up pretty early. People offer here fresh local products grown in the fields just outside the Town (mostly Konavle region).

Lokrum - paradise Island. Perfect place to escape city crowd and it’s only 10 minutes away with a ferry from the Old port. Botanical gardens, monasteries, fortress, peackocks and others. You can also find a lake “Dead Sea” and rocks to dive in. A small Game of Thrones exhibition in the monastery gives you chance to sit on the Iron Throne. Catch a ferry early in the morning and avoid the crowd!

Out of the way, but not that far from Dubrovnik is Cavtat, a historic town with load of charm, good eateries, fine shops and stunning architecture. There are two peninsulars either side of the harbour which are very pleasant to walk around, amazing views and wooded areas! You can go with your car as there is enough parking space provided!

Trsteno Arboretum was erected by the local noble family Gucetic - Gozze in the late 15th century, who requested ship captains to bring back seeds and plants from their travels. You can have a nice walk through shady trees towards house overlooking the sea. Lovely waterfall feature and lots of lemon/lime/orange trees and lovely plants in the garden. Make sure you come prepared with food and drinks, as there is no local market.

Ston is a small but very interesting village on the very beginning of the Pelješac peninsula. It is most famous for its great walls (second longest in the world ) and towers which where protecting the whole peninsula throughout history, it's salt factory and for it's oyster production - a culinary delicacy that you have to try when you visit Ston. The Pelješac peninsula is also famous for it's wine production and many family wine producers are creating world famous red wines. Apart from the main attractions ( walls and salt work and wine ) there are also local bars and a grocery market and big parking area. It is worth a visit even though it is 40 km away.

It takes only 1.9 km from our apartment to reach this beautifull restaurant. It is authentic Croatian tavern situated in Rijeka Dubrovačka, a picturesque natural inlet at the entrance of Dubrovnik. Away from the crowds it is a great place to have a romantic dinner or to hang out with your family. There is often a sailing boat across the restaurant called Tirena, 16th century replica of traditional ship. You can easly walk your way there from the apartment or you can choose to go with a car, either way you wont regreat it.

Great place to go casual and to refresh yourslef with fresh juices or even to grab a snack. It is very close to our apartment and I would recommend walking there, can be crowded with cars at night. This little gem is closed during winter time, but as soon as it open, it became favourite place to have a drink/coffee for local people. Since it is outside of the city center, it is very calm and relaxing place to be. Please note that if you want to go there in the evening hours, be sure to come earlier ( nights can be crowded ).

A beautifull restaurant located in the ACI Marina with an amazing and diverse menu. It has the highest quality of prepared meals at a great value, in a home-like and friendly environment. The cinematic atmosphere of the Sorkočević family's summer house will surely leave you breathless, as it is in vicinity of the restaurant. Definitely worth visiting!

Museum

Just a short cab drive away from the Old Town, but completely worth the journey just to visit. The admission is great value and the overall museum should take you 1-2 hours. Gives a great insight into the history of Communism in Croatia/Yugoslavia and ideology, culture and life of the people that lived there. It is balanced, imaginative and good value. Don't miss it. It will really add something to your trip to Dubrovnik.

Dubrovnik City Bus Libertas

Getting around Dubrovnik by bus is the recommended method of transportation, especially during summer. The fare is around 2euros if you buy from the driver upon entering the bus and it is valid for one hour. Your city bus is 1A and it will leave you in front of the city center called Pile Gate. Where you get out on Pile Gate is the same spot where you wait for the City Bus to come back to our area Mokosica. Bus drive takes aprox.20min :) !
