Sightseeing

Only 35 minutes away by car brings you to Peggy's Cove, which is one of the most well known lighthouses and sightseeing spots in Nova Scotia. It’s located in a picturesque town and is a beautiful spot for pictures. Stay off and away from any black rocks around the lighthouse, they are extremely dangerous as the ocean swell can rise high and is very strong in that area! You will also find a memorial site where the Swissair Flight 111 went down. Rhubarb cafe is located nearby and is a great place to hit up for lunch or weekend brunches.

Citadel Hill is a focal point in the downtown core. During the warmer months you are bound to find people picnicking, running laps or sun bathing and in the winter it is the perfect spot for sledding. But what isn't always noticeable from the street view are the fortifications built into the side of the hill. If you've never been, it is worth spending some time in this National Historic Site that protected the city for over 150 years. If you are in the downtown core you will also hear the firing of the noon gun, a daily occurrence.

The Halifax boardwalk is generally a bustling spot filled with locals and visitors alike. At almost 4km long, there is lots to see and do along the way! You'll be one with the ocean breeze as you pass by many kiosks, restaurants and sight seeing opportunities. If you’re lucky you may be around for when the seasonal 250 foot sea-bridge is available!

The Halifax to Alderney Ferry is not only a great way to visit Downtown Dartmouth on foot but also a great sightseeing and photo opportunity!! Our Ferry is the oldest saltwater ferry service in North America, and the second oldest in the world!! The Halifax Ferry Terminal is located Downtown right on the boardwalk, so easy to access during a day of exploring! At only $2.75 per way per person, it is a great way to get on the water and take in the sights of the city! The upper deck of the ferry is open air - which is always fun, no matter what time of year!

City/town information

Chester is a day trip we recommend at about 42 minutes away. It is another quaint Oceanside town with lovely sights. It is well known for hosting Chester Race Week - Canada's largest keel racing regatta (sailboats). There are a few shops and restaurants there to enjoy. We recommend checking out Going Coastal - a local shop that exhibits local artisans and has mainly ocean/seaside inspired art and furnishings. If you are looking to do some relaxing, look no further as Chester has a beautiful Nordic Spa: Sensea

Named one of the top restaurants in Canada - this is not to be missed! Both the cocktails and food are exceptional. Featuring a small, changing menu that boasts many seafood forward plates and house made pastas, you are bound to find something to please everyone. The space is small and can fill up quick so be sure to arrive early or book in advance! If you love tuna tartare - one of our all time favourite dishes and a must try is the "Ahi tartare with allumettes fries".
