Neighbourhoods

The Southern Suburbs and Peninsula districts of Cape Town are diverse and depending what you're wanting to experience there is loads to do and see. Here's a sneak peak at a few of my favourites.
Muizenberg is a vibrant multi-cultural, colourful coastal village set in the Southern Peninsula of Cape Town. Kitesurfers and SUPS flock to enjoy this blue flag beach. Restaurants, pubs and shopping along the beachfront and within the quaint inner village.

An unassuming and unexpected local treat if you are into local indigenous flora and Estuarine nature. Amazing birdlife too and there are fabulous hides for birders to contemplate life whilst waiting for a glimpse of something rare, or just for the peace of it.

Cape Point is a spectacular sight with towering stone cliffs, endemic fynbos, breathtaking bays, beaches and rolling green hills and valleys. Worth the fee to get in as there are no crowds and much to explore, but get out of the car and choose a route to walk for a true experience.

Hiking the Beautiful Echo Valley above Kalk Bay. The hike begins from Boyes Drive (signage for Echo’s Valley will ensure you’re in the right place), but can also be undertaken from the opposite direction, starting from Silvermine on Ou Kaapse weg. A steep set of stone steps lead straight from the busy road up into the mountain, shaded by dense bushes and shrubs. Climb through beautiful fynbos, pass crashing waterfalls, and through the break in the trees, you can enjoy the most exquisite views of False Bay and the Kalk Bay harbour.

Keeping it Local

Local Muizenberg vibes
The oldest pub in Muizenberg in the heart of the village. For smokers and those that don't mind ;-), it's where the real locals drink.

Actually this place is called, "The Commons". A little hub of artistic and live performance exchange. Super chilled and trendy without the hype and drama of fashionistas. SImply down to earth local vibes, and vegan bites. So lekker! https://thecommons.co.za/

For Wine Lovers

As the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere, Constantia’s uninterrupted history of wine making stretches back over 300 years.
Buitenverwachting - My favourite unpretentious wine farm to visit for wine tasting and family picnics on the great lawn or breakfast and lunches at the Coffee Bloc. It's history goes back to the first governor of the Cape and it's just 12 km from our apartment. Also, Beyond, a wonderful fine dining restaurant for those with a taste for the finger things in life!

A fabulous winery, great eateries on site and for trail blazers, a cycle track to play on. Featuring a variety of pump tracks currently totaling 2.8 km, there are beginner jump lines all the way to expert drop-offs... The Heritage Market has wonderful food, craft beers and slow churned ice cream. Wine tasting a must of course!

For Adventure Seekers

Okay so this not altogether close, its across on the other side of the bay, but it's worth going to the effort of travelling all the way and getting the permit to experience this adventure paradise with deep crystal clear coca-cola water pools, breath-taking jumps and great hiking. By far my favourite place to spend a playful hot summers day. You will require a permit and you do have to book a few days before your planned canyoning funday. Internet search it and see all the necessary info on the Steenbras River Gorge City of Cape Town government website. Sorry Airbnb won't let me post the link here ;-)

This is a definite must for those who love to see the sights from a height and who like the moonlight! Do this on a full moon rising. Start your ascent early evening and then descend on the full moon - it's a bucket list thing to do!
