Heydon edge of village - One of our guests went here recently as it has changed hands. Now a Greene King pub but they said it was very lively. Great spot for a pint and in the better weather they have a huge beer garden to the rear. A 15 minute walk from the house

Saffron Walden - This is our favourite place for ice-cream. Saffron Walden is a great village to spend some time wandering around. But that is made even better by the presence of Hill Street. Amazing hot chocolate, fab coffee and hand made chocs. Not a lot of room to sit but treat yourself and pop in

Sightseeing

Cambridge - The Corpus Clock is one of the most distinctive public monuments in Cambridge and has been admired by residents and tourists since its inauguration in 2008. It is an unusual device for the measurement of time being both hypnotically beautiful and deeply disturbing. It was invented, designed and given to Corpus Christi College by Dr John C Taylor OBE FREng (m1959), who worked with local engineering company Huxley Bertram in constructing the Clock.

Saffron Walden - Bridge End Garden was created around 1840 by Francis Gibson, a local Quaker businessman who also built the Fry Art Gallery. Francis’ daughter Elizabeth married Lewis Fry of Bristol and in 1918 the Fry family leased the Garden to the local council. It has been open to the public ever since with entrances off Castle Street, Bridge Street and by the Cricket Field.

Saffron Walden - Bridge End Garden was created around 1840 by Francis Gibson, a local Quaker businessman who also built the Fry Art Gallery. Francis’ daughter Elizabeth married Lewis Fry of Bristol and in 1918 the Fry family leased the Garden to the local council. It has been open to the public ever since with entrances off Castle Street, Bridge Street and by the Cricket Field.
