The Municipal Market of Chania, the large building of 4000 square meters in a surrounding area of 17.200 square meters, is the "heart" of the city. It is an original building where today many shops that sell local products and souvenirs are housed. Its foundation started on August 14, 1911, at the place that was the main rampart of the fortification during the Venetian period, and the construction of the building was completed during the second half of 1913.

When in Chania not forget to visit the Museum of Ancient and Traditional Shipbuilding at the docks of the Venetian harbor, where you can see the representation of the Minoan ship "Minoa" of 16th-15th century BC,. The ship was launched in December 2003 and in 2004 made its maiden trip from Chania to Piraeus, accompanying the Olympic flame that was moved by the Athenian Trireme in the last part of the route, and boating events and celebrations of Naval Week. The ship belongs to the nearby Naval Museum.

The Museum of Typography is located near Chania, Crete, at the Industrial Park of Souda. The museum started as a small private collection next to the newspaper’s printing facilities and first opened its doors to the public in 2005. A few years later, in 2012, a new wing was added, presenting various techniques related to typography. In 2015 another hall was inaugurated, along with the museum shop and a small coffee shop. Samaria Gorge is a National Park of Greece since 1962 and a major tourist attraction of the island – and a World's Biosphere Reserve. The gorge is in southwest Crete in the regional unit of Chania and it needs 5-6 hours to cross it. At the end of the gorge, Agia Roumeli beach awaits for for a dip. Tavernas are also available there, so you can grab a bite before taking the ferry to Chora Sfakion.

The beach is very well organized with umbrellas, water sports, restaurants, hotels, lifeguard, mini markets, etc. West of the main bay, beyond the rocky end, there is also a secluded, not organized, sandy bay.

The seaside village of Kalathas is located 12km northeast of Chania city, in a natural bay at the Cape Akrotiri, which is open to the north winds. Current Kalathas is a relatively new village, which has been inhabited by residents of Chania who wanted to live away from the city center. The beach in front of the village is beautiful, with fine sand and shallow crystal clear water. Opposite Kalathas, there is a small island which you can easily reach by swimming. The beach is very well organized with umbrellas, water sports, restaurants, hotels, lifeguard, mini markets, etc. West of the main bay, beyond the rocky end, there is also a secluded, not organized, sandy bay.
