Day Trips to Galveston, Houston, Lake Charles, LA.
Galveston Island. Pack your bathing suit and sunscreen. The ferry will get you there. It's 71 miles to the ferry. It's a little further if you want to avoid the ferry. Either way, it's worth the drive. They offer a water park, botanical zoo, restaurants, shopping on the Strand, historical home tours, etc.
