Great take-away pizzas with some great different toppings, as well as the usual. Takes about 40mins and you need cash (around $25 - $30).

Fabulous pasteries and delicious cakes - you'll want to try them all! Also good coffee and service.

Probably the most 'hip' coffee shop in the Bega Valley! Combines a cafe with an open studio/gallery. Warning!! - most of the seating is Kindy chairs. Definitely not as much 'fun' over 50 years of age!

Astoundingly good Chinese/Singaporian food. Equal to the best Salt and Pepper Calamari I've ever had and the Penang Steak or Chicken make you want to take any left-over sauce with you. Not cheap but definitely worth a visit.

Great take-away fish and chips/hambergers. It's an outlet for the Fishermans' Co-op so it really is the 'fish of the day.' You can also buy fresh fish, local Sydney Rock oysters and prawns as well as some locally smoke fish.

Drinks & Nightlife

Great layout, providing a lovely bar and a limited range of food, particularly oysters, obviously. The bar is run by the owner of one of the oyster leases at Wapengo, where all locals will tell you, they grow THE BEST Sydney Rock Oysters - and I concur!!

My absolute favourite place to be at the end of the day on one of Bermagui's mild evenings, watching the sun go down with all the activity and changing colours of the harbour and Gulaga in the distance. It is simply heaven on earth and is why I and Maureen and Geoff, the terrific hosts, moved here. The blend of craft brews and a lovely wine selection goes brilliantly with the nibbles and Maureen's delicious pizzas.

Parks & Nature

There are various turn-offs to the Mimosa Rocks National Park all along the Tathra-Bermagui Road that will take you to stunning beaches and views down the coast. One less accessible but well-worthwhile site is in the heart of Mumbala, the male volcanic mountain to the south of Gulaga, the female mountain. The falls that run through its centre are spectacular. Gulaga is also a great place to hike as it has views all over the Bega Valley.

Sightseeing

An old mining town, Central Tilba was the first complete town to be listed by the National Trust in NSW. It still has all the atmosphere of its past and is a great place for a Devonshire tea! Postcard perfect as well as some great shops.

In September 1880, gold was discovered on a beach north of Bermagui. Named Montreal Goldfield, the rush barely lasted from 1880-1883 but nearly 250kg of gold was unearthed using only a pick and shovel. It became the only goldfield in Australia that extends into the sea. Having passed signs for the tours for years, I finally went there this year and was thoroughly amazed at how much remained and the excellent tour guides who all volunteer. The only access is on a guided tour, run every day at 2pm. A fascinating experience!

Arts & Culture

Always interesting, Narek exhibits artists from all over Australia as well as many ANU graduates. They also have some wonderful ceramics to purchase. Located in an old church hall, it has a very spacious feel and plenty of room to contemplate the latest works. It is closed through winter. You can check its web site for opening dates.

Essentials

Whilst not as large as the supermarket at Narooma, you are able to get pretty much anything you need here. They have a great range of pre-prepared meals as well as fresh meat and meals for the BBQ (and even some bones, early in the week, for the dog!).
