Bring summer clothes
Granada is warm pretty much all year round so when you are packing imagine yourself preparing for a nice and warm summer holiday. Flip flops are a must and always have swimsuit.

Walk, Bike, Walk...but taxis are also cheap
Granada is a relatively small town and the best way to fully appreciate it is to walk or bike around town. It is pretty safe to walk around the main parts of town but just like any other city in L.A you have to mind your surroundings and if a place looks sketchy then is best to avoid it. If you go out for a fun night and it gets late it is always better to get a taxi that costs C$30 per person (less than a dollar) to get you safe to your lodge.

We always recommend to our guests or any traveler that the best way of getting to your next destination or to Granada itself are private shuttles. They are not expensive, around US$18 per person, are very confortable (with air conditioning) and you save a lot of road time.

The Chicken Bus (Pros)
This is the colorful name given to the local public transportation. A lot of travelers love the experience of the chicken buses for they allow you to dive deep into the local culture and make you feel just like any other Nicaraguan, with the on and off bus merchants that sell you local snacks for your bus ride, note books, pens and pencils and even pharmaceutical pills that they would assure you that are miraculous for your brain and body. They can also get you anywhere within the country and are super cheap!!! If you don't know what bus to get just ask around, locals love to be useful.

Chicken Bus (Cons)
As we discussed before the colorfulness of the chicken bus, we also have to tell you that most of them are uncomfortable to sit in because the leg space is not meant for tall people. They are hot and most of the time busy and crowded (like most public transportation), they are rarely on time and your trip can take a lot longer than expected due to the fact that they stop on the road to pick up and drop off people on the way. You have to be watchful of your personal belongings because if you are not someone might try to take advantage and steal from you.
