Things to see while in Skopje !!!
The perfect idea in the hot summer days to escape the city heat and enjoy nature. It is one of the most popular places where Macedonians and tourists want to go! Prepare for breathtaking views! It is located on the southeast from Skopje in a 15 minutes drive. Once you are there the things that you can do are: -Have a picnic (bring some food) -Hike to the St. Nikola Monastery (not for everybody since this hike is a steep path through the woods and bushes and will take about 30-40 minutes) -Rent a kayak (Peddling on the lake is pretty easy, there is no current.) -Have a boat trip on Lake Matka -Take a caves tour (these tours are guided) -Have lunch or dinner at Canyon Matka Restaurant or simply enjoy a beer or a glass of wine. Fun fact: Vrelo Cave, one of the caves in Matka is the deepest underwater cave in the world!

The Old Bazaar of Skopje was founded before 7 centuries and today it is one of the most famous landmarks in Skopje, the first one to be explored when visiting the town. Moreover, it is the biggest bazaar in the Balkans. The town is characteristic of its Ottoman architecture with a mix of Byzantine style, creating a mix of cultural heritage. Through the old narrow town’s streets paved with cobblestone, the history blends with the modern style of living. At many places in the town, history left many visible traces portraying the life throughout centuries. The old teahouses still serve tea in a small typical glass on a metal tray. Many shops are found along the streets with characteristic products, which can be found, only at this place. Most of the craft workshops are keeping alive some of the oldest handmade artistry, which year by year became very rare on the territory of the Balkan Peninsula, like filigree craftsmanship. Besides, sweet shops and restaurants serving some of the most popular Turkish dishes and delights are to be found along the narrow streets.

The bridge is considered a symbol of Skopje and is the main element of the coat of arms of the city, which in turn is incorporated in the city's flag. It is located in Centar municipality and it connects Macedonia Square to the Old Bazaar. The current Stone Bridge was built on Roman foundations under the patronage of Sultan Mehmed II the Conqueror between 1451 and 1469.

If you are looking for a traditional experience while in Skopje, this fine Macedonian establishment is always busy for a good reason and is definitely worth the trek to the western suburbs to enjoy its many pleasures. Featuring amiable waiters who wish only to bring yet another armload of dishes to your table, if you’re on a diet (and you might have to be after reviving yourself with an espresso), try the čiorba (sour soup), served in hanging copper pots with lashings of fresh white bread.

Located in one of the current hot spots in town a short taxi ride from the city center, Lyra is a fine traditional restaurant that’s been keeping the locals wined, dined and pleasantly happy for over two decades. As well as an impressive menu positively stuffed with great dishes from appetizers to fish to mouth-watering grilled meat, there’s a nice selection of desserts plus of course plenty of local wine to keep everyone boisterous. When the weather’s good, the terrace is especially pleasing, plus there’s quality live music from time to time.

Excellent service, extremely affordable prices and delicious food to match set Korner Baba Cana out as one of the best places in town to gorge oneself silly. Very popular despite the location a fair way out of the city centre, we recommended you arrive with an empty stomach and an open mind and ask a waiter to prepare you lots of different dishes to share with friends. Although we could easily live on their salads and sausages, you might like to try a few other things on the menu.

Starting life way back in 1987 when private businesses were almost unheard of, this legendary, family-run fast food stall is based on giving its customers the very best quality food for the very best prices. After three decades there’s still often a long queue here, which is proof enough in a country famed for its food that Fast Food 7 is up there among the giants of Skopje cuisine. The menu as you’d expect is packed with burgers, fries, chicken, hotdogs and the like. Fast Food 7 also has branches at Sendvichara 7 in Aerodrom.

A two-minute walk from the main square, this is one of the oldest establishments for Turkish kebab (finger-like minced meat, typical for the Balkan area) places in town - and for a reason. It's still visited a lot by locals, and they know how to do their meat (no wrong additives) and they make great baked beans- gravče tavče (the most typical Macedonian dish). All in all - great food.
