Parks and Beaches

Marina Beach Park is my favorite local park for its beauty and close proximity! A smaller park with 2 miles of shoreline, Marina Beach Park stretches from a grassy open area to sandy shoreline to docks, the ferry terminal, the main pier, and ending in a rocky black jetty. There’s plenty of parking around the length of the shoreline too.

Green Lake Park is the largest lake park in the North Seattle area. Like a mini “Central Park”, Green Lake is a beautiful green respite in the middle an urban crawl of restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. There is a fully accessible 2.8 mile biking/walking path around the lake plus virtually everything you could imagine in a great lake park: boating, swimming, soccer and baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts, fishing, art in the park, children’s play areas, pools, BBQ setups, a nature preserve, and various lessons and classes. Plus, there are lots of shady trees and open grass for leisure space.

Food scene

This intimate Italian restaurant is wonderful for special dinners or just a nice meal on your own. The atmosphere is both cool and charming. The menu offers lots of wine, meat, and seafood. If you’re a bread lover like me, you’ll enjoy their pizzas and stromboli. Note however that they don’t have many pasta dishes in case you are the type who goes to Italian restaurants FOR pasta (my sister was disappointed). Nonetheless, Bucatini is one of the best restaurants I’ve found in the Edmonds!

This Indian restaurant is absolutely lovely! The food is just delicious...and that’s all I can really say. Take out is much more affordable than delivery if you’re hoping to bring some food home.

This hole in the wall is an absolute gem and just 1.5 miles straight up the street. There are just a couple of tables inside, so takeout is best. But, their soups are unbelievable! I haven’t been able to find just the kind of “traditional Thai soup” they serve at any other restaurant. I order it every time. And of course (the measuring stick of any Thai restaurant) the Pad Thai is fantastic.

Sightseeing

Pioneer Square is “Seattle’s Original Neighborhood”. The neighborhood is built around a cobblestone triangular plaza, composed of dozens of stone and brick buildings in the late-Victorian Romanesque architecture style. There are sights and memorials such as the enormous Tlingit totem pole, the bust of Chief Seattle, and Smith Tower. This historic area has been restored in the past decades to host a vibrant music, art, shopping, and dining scene in addition to the historical events and tours.

Had to add the Space Needle, the park, and Seattle Center. Much has been written on this area already, so I’d suggest reading over those reviews and recommendations if you’re planning a visit. It’s touristy, but some people love the touristy stuff! The Space Needle is iconic to the Seattle skyline and a fun thing to explore. I will say as a local that the area is probably a lot bigger than you might expect. The Space Needle is surrounded with multiple parks and museums, theaters, exhibits, and seasonal events such as concerts. It’s a whole campus! There is virtually no parking, so be prepared to pay for a parking lot or garage and walk or take public transportation. Still though, it’s a neat place to visit. If you’re a grown-up going without kids, I’d also suggest waiting until the evening when things die down a little. The memorials and exhibits and very pretty at night.
