Things of Interest in the Local Area

Waxhaw is 2.2 miles from our home. There are many nice dining opportunities and lots of things to do in downtown. There is ample parking so you can park and walk to restaurants and shops. For those interested in Arts and Crafts or antiques there are multiple shops that might be of interest. In the summer there is live music and other activities on Friday nights. Waxhaw is famous for its 4th of July parade and fireworks display. Several times a year there are outdoor events that have both food vendors and arts and crafts for sale, a bounce house, face painting, carriage rides and more. During the winter holidays the downtown area becomes a winter wonderland of lights. There are both a Menorah and a Christmas tree lightings respectively. There is a live Nativity and for a fee you can take a ride in a horse drawn carriage. The shops stay open late so you can get your holiday shopping done. Waxhaw Farmer's market is open year round on Saturdays. There are a variety of vendors offering everything from Fresh produce, eggs and grass fed meat, to herbs, plants and herbal products, also baked goodies, hand made sweets and more! Outside of the downtown area, but still within the town limits there are more shops and restaurants, as well as a Food Lion, Harris Teeter and Walmart neighborhood store. Within a 20 minute drive there are theaters and a number of "Big Box" shopping centers. Should a health issue arise, Waxhaw has a fully equipped Emergency room for serious health issues as well as a Minute Clinic at the CVS should you just need to see a Dr.
Provisions is a nice place to stop for brunch or lunch. The menus has many tasty options and always has at least one or two vegan/ plant based food choices. It is a convenient meeting place since it has a roomy seating area is right downtown. It is fun to browse their stock of jams, jellies, spice blends, teas and coffees by the ounce or by the pound while you wait for your food to be prepared.
