Food Scene

Klamath Falls insn't exactly a foodie's town, but this simple little place serves great, fresh Chinese food. Main dishes are ordered family style, and they do have the classic lunch combos too. One of the closest non-chain restaurants close to our home.

This quirky little gem is located near our local golf course. They have a full bar and pretty good food. We love there spicy clams with butter and wine sauce....use that great bread to soak up that goodness. Some weekend nights they have live music. The atmosphere is not what you would expect at a golf course, more of a quirky local place.

This is probably one of the nicest and most consistent restaurants in Klamath Falls. It is at the Runny Y Resort, which is run by Wyndam and is overlooking an Arnold Palmer designed golf course. If you get a change to grab one of their special even brunches, like Mother's Day or Easter, you won't be disappointed. They are pricier, but worth it.

Although Klamath does not have lots of coffee places, this is our favorite. They have locally sourced food items in their deli. Some days they have local musician playing. But I heads up, check their website for hours as Klamath Falls has shorter hour for coffee shops and many are closed on Sunday.

Thai Orchid is one of our staples for good Thai food in Klamath. Sometimes the servers mood may flex, but the food is good.

This is a great addition to the Klamath Falls (limited) food scene. This is a corner store/sandwich shop that has creative and tasty sandwiches. They also have daily special and yummy to-go items like soups and special pastas that a great for taking home and heating up. They also have beer on tap and a sweet outdoor seating area. This is in a working class part of town and it is great to see something creative come to the area.

This is our closest coffee shop that is not a drive through chain. They use locally roasted beans and have wraps for lunch. I love their vanilla frappe (which basically is a frozen coffee desert in a cup). They also have the coffee house classics. There hours are: Monday - Firday: 7am - 4pm Saturday: Closed Sunday: 10am - 2pm

Parks & Nature

Crater Lake is one of the natural wonders of Oregon. Our home is about an hour drive from the Southern entrance. Crater Lake National Park is in the Cascade Mountains of southern Oregon. It’s known for its namesake Crater Lake, formed by the now-collapsed volcano, Mount Mazama. Wizard Island is a cinder cone near the western edge of the lake. The Rim Drive, a road surrounding the lake, offers views of the park’s volcanic formations. The park’s numerous trails include Sun Notch, with views of the Phantom Ship, a small island. There is a snack bar at the visitor center and during the summer months their lodge has a higher end restaurant.

Lava Beds National Monument is a land of turmoil, both geological and historical. Over the last half-million years, volcanic eruptions on the Medicine Lake shield volcano have created a rugged landscape dotted with diverse volcanic features. More than 700 caves, Native American rock art sites, historic battlefields and campsites, and a high desert wilderness experience await you! Approximately 1 hour drive south of our home.

Birding, walking, canoeing, fishing, and waterfowl hunting are the primary attractions at the Wood River Wetland. The half-mile paved trail to the wetland area, and the many miles of levees provide ample opportunity for hiking, mountain biking, and sightseeing. For canoeists and kayakers, there is a hand-carry boat launch at the entrance area, and from there a short half-mile paddle to the Wood River, where boaters can travel up or downstream on the river. There are picnic tables, benches, and interpretive signs throughout the area. This is an amazing place to walk or go canoeing. Approximately a 1/2 hour drive from our home. It could be a great detour on your way to or from Crater Lake
