Food Scene

My favourite restaurant in Malaga to have fish and seafood is Juanito Juan. Best quality, and best quality for money rate. It is some 20 minutes walk from home or you can drive and park at the Mercado de El Palo parking. Best fried calamari, and seafood. Ask Pepe or Enrique, owners, for their recommends.

Just around the corner from home, you have the two branches (calle Bolivia 117 and avenida Juan Sebastian Elcano 53) of ice cream shop Laury. They make everything for themselves artisan and with natural ingredients, even the waffers. Turrón, mantecado, and pistachio are some of our favorites flavours. Horchata, a drink made out of nutsedge, iced lemonade and Blanco y negro (iced coffee with cream or mantecado icecream on top) are great too. Beware of Blanco y negro, the coffee it is made with is strong, it has happened to me to have it late in the afternoon and then not falling sleep at night.

Espetos, fried calamari, boquerones, salmonetes, seafood, including busanos, bolos, concha fina, dressed peppers salad is a good side dish to fried fish. Other seafood might turn out a bit pricey here.

Malaga modern and juvenile atmosphere. The menu is based of traditional dishes somewhat updated. I’ll recommend it better for dinner than lunch.

A Japanese restaurant at El Pedregalejo. We are big fans of Japanese food. This one is good though not really true Japanese, a bit California style and rather pricey.

Inside El Palo fresh market. Top fish and seafood. You have to stand up.

Lost in the middle of nowhere is my second favourite in Malaga for fish and seafood. Set your gps to take you there and follow it. Not many tourists around here.

By far our favourite Japanese restaurant in Malaga. The chef is a Japanese traditional chef who has run Japanese restaurants all around the world and in Deluxe Hotels. He decided to settle down in Malaga. They have Japanese specialties along with Spanish in their menu. I’d suggest you stick to the Japanese options. I know the chef is been ill of lately. Without him in the kitchen they run a bit slow. Book in advance. Open only for dinner. Not especially well suited for children.

Italian food from Calabria. Pizzas and pasta tend to be a bit overloaded with ingredients but usually very good. Very good for children. Great open-air terrace for children.

They have two branches the original one at calle Cervantes 8. 952 21 89 90. Book in advance. And a new one close to the cathedral C/ Postigo De Los Abades, 4. 952 60 23 89. I prefer the original one, but the one next to the catedral is a good option if you are downtown. Malaga traditional cuisine. I recommend ensaladilla rusa, porra, and flamenquín among others.
