About a 7 minute walk from the cottage, this park is great for families with young children. The park has a couple of play structures, one rated for really young kids, and one for older kids. Also has a swing set, picnic table, and benches. A long grassy area adjacent makes a great place to throw a ball or frisbee (for kids and/or dogs).

Combellack’s was started in 1898 by William Hill Combellack. In 1910 his son William Herbert “Bert” Combellack took over; in 1946 his two sons Robert William Combellack and Allan Blair Combellack took over; and in 1978 Allan’s daughter, Gayle Combellack-Rohl and in 1983 Allan’s daughter Janis Combellack joined her sister to continue on with the family tradition. Gayle and Janis carry some of the same companies as their great grandfather—including Len and Pendleton, along with many new lines like Kiche, Woolrich and Tommy Bahama, and, they do tuxedo rentals.

Family owned for over one hundred years. Wow! There are very few businesses that can claim to be family owned for that long, but here in Placerville we have such a business—The Placerville News Company. Since 1912, our family has been here to help you and your family. One thing that has served us well over the years and helped us reach this mark is our diversity of merchandise. From Schwinn bicycles to Fine Bone China, there are very few things that we have not carried in the last one hundred years. Today we continue that tradition: from artist supplies, puzzles and tobacco to Yankee Candles, Lead Crystal, and yes we still carry Bone China tea cups!

Arts & Culture

Housed in the 1852-53 stone soda works building, the artifacts on display at the Fountain & Tallman Museum tell the story of the California Gold Rush and the part Placerville played in the recovery of those huge deposits of GOLD. The El Dorado County Historical Society was established in 1938 when thirty-six people from twenty-three fraternal and civic organizations met at the courthouse and voted unanimously to collect and preserve the artifacts and documents so important to future generations. In 1981, the “Old Stone Building” was gifted to the Historical Society by Faye Rupley Cannon. In 1984 it was entered into the National Register of Historic Places.
