Glen and Ruth are very friendly, welcoming and provide expert instruction (in small chunks so that you don't get overwhelmed), give a real understanding of how and why the glass behaves and the opportunity to pass off the difficult steps so that you end up with beautiful glass pieces to remind you of your afternoon in San Antonio. You are able to work at our own pace without ever feeling rushed. Worth every penny!

Sometimes you just need a burger, and thankfully this East Side staple still packs in the crowds with its free beans and fresh-made burgers. Stick with the basics, but we won't blame you for wanting to try the ice cream burger. 1624 E. Commerce St., (210) 299-8110.

Drinks & Nightlife

VFW Post 76 is now the oldest post in Texas and last year celebrated it's centenary having opened in June 1917. It is open to members and the public offering cold drinks including beer and wine with member discounts. There is tabled seating inside and outside with the friendly atmosphere enhanced with country music. Apparently the house is haunted, so keep an eye out for Charley the ghost!

It's hard to find fault in this massive patio bar that occasionally hosts great jam bands, food trucks, and laid-back viewing parties of both classic movies and Spurs games when they're in season. Make use of the parking lot on the side of the building and make sure to take your puppy pals. 43o Austin St., 210-354-3001.
