Devil's Thumb is located in a gorgeous spot and has fabulous cross country skiing, as well as a fantastic (and sorta fancy) restaurant and spa. This makes for a nice break from downhill skiing, especially if you are staying for a week!

3530 County Rd 83Devil's Thumb is located in a gorgeous spot and has fabulous cross country skiing, as well as a fantastic (and sorta fancy) restaurant and spa. This makes for a nice break from downhill skiing, especially if you are staying for a week!
The saying goes, "No Jane, No Pain" :o !! But don't let that daunt you. The slope face in Mary Jane makes for great snow that tends to stick around and not get skied off quite as quickly as in Winter Park. Enjoy a taste of old school in the Mary Jane base lodge, where you will see plenty of free-heelers along with locals riding very long straight boards. MJ is a favorite on powder days!!

The Foundry is a fun place to unwind after a day on the slopes. You can bowl, eat, see a movie, eat while in the movie, you get the drift! Great pizza and beer, and a fun new spot in the valley.

Ok, so don't tell TOO many of your friends how cool this hot springs is ... we don't want it getting crowded!!! This is a little bit of a trek from Winter Park/Fraser, but it is so worth the drive. Old school hot springs, don't think Ritz Carlton, think back to basics. Fabulous variety of pools, including one where the hot springs showers down in a water fall you can hang out under. This place has a very special place in my heart.

This is across the highway a short drive from the condo. They roast their own beans and the coffee is terrific. Their chocolate croissants are not half bad either :) If you want a quick but substantial bite, grab a burrito and head for the hill!

Grab a burger with the locals at the Crooked Creek Saloon. Great beer, fun people watching, and killer burgers. They also do a really great breakfast.

Cool old photos, artifacts and antiques, great food and friendly service. Check it out if you need a rest before or after Berthoud Pass!

Another suggestion on the way up the Hill. The Lewis Sweet Shop has been in Empire since Lewis opened it up in 1949, after coming home from the War in WWII. The shop still uses Lewis's recipes for ice cream and other delights, and it is a fun little stop on the way up (or down) the Hill!

This is a cool little museum, housed in the Cozens' family ranch house. Lots of artifacts and information about the Valley long before we skiers were on the scene. Take a step back into old ranch times. A fun way to spend a few hours and rest your aching quads.
