The only coffee shop in town (besides its sister store out west) that boasts the formidable Slayer espresso machine! Locally roasted beans, amazing staff, and a pup-friendly patio make this a great spot for coffee.

Local haunt. No TVs + killer cocktails & hot dogs + dynamic outdoor seating area = classic Knoxville night spot. Closes early during the week (midnight).

Hidden inside the Oliver Hotel in downtown Knoxville is the best cocktail bar in town. Enter in the alley behind the hotel (entrance is by a red light in the alley) and go during off-peak hours to avoid having to wait in line. Sunday nights are particularly nice there... if you go on a Sunday night, tell the bartender you're staying in my apartment :)

Indie, metal, folk, experimental, rock 'n' roll, hip hop, local, national, international... this is one of the best and most cherished music venues in the country. Do yourself a favor and go see who's playing tonight. It likely won't cost more than $5 and will also change your life. CASH ONLY!!!

Scottish-themed bar with a truly awe-inspiring collection of whiskey and scotch. Decent enough food, too. There's usually live music, too: bluegrass, country, folk. There are instruments on the wall if you want to take them down for a jam sesh!

Parks & Nature

Ijams is essential to Knoxville. On the cusp of the Urban Wilderness, this outdoor treasure has hiking trails, a swimming quarry, educational opportunities... and you can bring your leashed dog, too!

Arts & Culture

I LOVE the KMA. It's small but serious: the collection is always complemented by the exhibits. There are even some Thorne Rooms downstairs! My absolute favorite place to spend a rainy day in Knoxville.

Affectionately called Fellini Kroger by the locals (due to the surreal nature of its clientele), this grocery store is open until 11 p.m. Not the world's best produce section, but plenty of staples available at a reasonable price.
