Sightseeing

The Stagg Tree, officially the Amos Alonzo Stagg Tree and formerly known as the Day Tree, is a giant sequoia in Alder Creek Grove in California's Sierra Nevada mountains. It is the fifth largest tree in the world and the tallest giant sequoia south of Lincoln in Sequoia National Park. Stagg features the second largest footprint of any living giant sequoia, measuring 109 ft (33 m) in circumference at ground level, and second only to Boole. The tree is believed to be over 3,000 years old, making it one of the oldest living giant sequoias.

This is an amazing walkable paved trail through the Giant redwoods! This is about a 45 minute drive up the hill and dogs are allowed. They also have a great small gift shop and picnic tables to have your lunch. Trail of 100 Giants offers an easy, accessible walk through the Long Meadow Grove, one of our area's premier groves of giant sequoias. Along the trail, you'll see impressively large giant sequoia trees, estimated up to 1,500 years old. A 1.3-mile paved trail has several loop options with interpretive signs for some highlights. Located on the Western Divide Highway (M 107), facilities include a paved parking area, restrooms, a picnic area, and Redwood Meadow Campground nearby. A $12.00 per vehicle fee is charged to help maintain and improve these facilities. The roads leading to the trail are typically closed by snow during the winter months. (November thru April)

Driving Directions Important use directions sent by Host

Your directions will be sent automatically a few days before your reservation. The Bunkhouse is located in the center of Camp Nelson. If you google the address it comes up as Springville California in all actuality the town of Springville is located on the 190 about 30 minutes down the hill from the cabin. Please download and save your driving instructions before you leave as you will not have cell service, most map apps do not provide the best directions and may actually extend your drive. Please follow the directions sent to you by the host.

Camp Nelson History

www.JMNC.org is a helpful website that will give you a history of the Camp Nelson area The conservancy building is located just across from the meadow in the middle of town. The small museum is sometimes open on the weekends for tours.
