Food scene

Literally next door, the local deli has your daily food items plus great sandwiches, pasts and ice cream! Plus the chocolate chip cookies are a personal favorite. Whether for lunch, a snack, or to grab dinner items, you can't go wrong. The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. (Note: Closed on Sundays).

If you want great Italian / American fare, this is a local (and further) legend, run for generations by the Vullo family. Great in person or for take out! Friendly, lively ambiance inside, with historic photos lining the walls.

Not enough can be said about how good their authentic, small-batch, fresh made gelato is. They let you try any flavor you want to. But they're all amazing. And the decor is so welcoming. The owner Maria and her colleagues are all great. Keep an eye out for her orange gelato Jeep on the streets nearby!

Andrea Maranville was the runner-up on the Great American Baking Show, which led her to open a bakery in her hometown of Sherrill! From cookies to brownies, donuts to sandwiches and everything in between, you have to stop by for a bite. Also high-end brewed coffees! Charming seating inside, or a lovely patio outside.

The food here is some of the best I've had in the world. And the service too. Don't miss table churned fresh ice cream!

Neighborhoods

Vernon Center was first settled by Oneida Indians, and then by former Revolutionary War soldiers from Litchfield CT, who moved here in 1796. They laid out the village green, and much of the look and feel has remained the same since then, more than 200 years ago. The Victorian gazebo, the two churches, the church rectory and the maple-lined village green are on the National Register of Historic Places as the Vernon Center Green Historic District. The area has an active small town community life, active dairy and hops farms, and is convenient to Clinton, Utica and Syracuse.
