Grandfather Mountain has been an icon in North Carolina’s landscape for generations, offering stunning scenery and unmatched ecological diversity. This state park opens the mountain’s 2,456-acre backcountry to spectacular hiking and backpacking. The park is known for some of the South’s most severe weather and challenging terrain, with trails that have hikers scrambling along cliffs and up ladders. Access to 12 miles of trails and backpack camping sites is generally from the Profile Trailhead on NC 105 or trailheads along the adjacent Blue Ridge Parkway. However, trails can also be reached from the park of the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation (which includes the mile-high swinging bridge and other attractions) and there is a fee for this access.

Cascade Falls at the Blue Ridge Parkway is a family tradition. The trail is a 30-40 minute hike and is a great adventure to a beautiful natural waterfall. The area is well maintained and the views at the falls are breathtaking. There are restrooms near the trailhead and picnic tables onsite.

Drag racing held each weekend beginning in April. Gear Jammers, funny cars, motorcycles and jet cars. "Test and Tune" every Thursday night, weather permitting. Snack bar and picnic area on site. Celebrating 60 + years of drag racing – we hold the title of the oldest dragway still in operation in North Carolina!

Situated in a space once occupied by a furniture factory (that was built prior to 1920), the floor space includes two levels. The store operates on consignment, and there must be close to a hundred vendor.! Each vendor occupies anywhere from one to several spaces, and they all have their own sort of niche/style. Vendors’ booths feature antiques, vintage items, local crafts, and repurposed furniture. There are also great items here from local farms/estates, that are uniquely Western NC. It’s also one of the only businesses open seven days a week.
