Sightseeing

With over 15 miles of footpaths and a 19th century cotton mill set in the middle of the valley this is a lovely, picturesque place to visit. The river walk to the Mill is the most impressive but can be pretty slippy on wet days, there is an easier route along the gravel road which also leads to the Mill and the café.

You can pick up the Pennine Way by driving to the White House, (left from the house, right up to the top) and then parking below the White House public house. It can be incredibly windy up there but don’t be put off, wrap up warm, it’s worth it. Following the Pennine Way you will pass the so called Roman Road over Blackstone Edge, then on to the large stone pillar known as ‘The Aiggin Stone’ a medieval guide post believed to be about six hundred years old.
