This is the center of New Smyrna Beach, on the bay side, close to historic sites. Less busy than Flagler Avenue, but no less charming, Canal Street has many restaurants, shops, and cafes! Saturday mornings there is a Farmer's market as well! Walk along the water at the marina or Manatee Park, or stroll or bike the path to the beach.

Parks
Great little park with a small playground and LOTS of green area. A fence along the sidewalk keeps kids from running into the main road. A nice little stone bridge and the huge old trees are a gorgeous setting for a picnic. Bring bug spray if there's no breeze.

This is a big park with options for everyone! Tennis courts, pickleball, squash, a soccer field, small skate park, playground, and pavilion with tables as well as exercise equipment along the path that loops around the park.

Bikes are the fastest way to get where you're going
Avoid the headache of parking your car (if you don't need to bring lots along) and opt for a bike!

Prepare for hot and cold!
Pack for fun in the sun but beware lots of places blast the AC so it can be a stark contrast if you dress for the beach but end up indoors. Always throw a longsleeve in your bag if you may be heading indoors at some point while you're away from the house.
Obviously it can get chilly outside, too, so it's always good to pack an option in your suitcase for if the chill sets in!

SO MANY PARKS!
There are great parks all over! There are also restrooms and showers at most of the beach-side parking lots if you're lucky enough to snag a spot. Keep them cool at the beach or splash park off Washington and make sure you don't forget lots of reef-safe, biodegradable sunscreen!

There is a large homeless population in Florida
Please be aware that the homeless population in Florida is large and very visible. They are not considered to be a threat but many consider them a nuisance. When you are out and about in FL, it is not unusual to see homeless individuals or for them to ask for change, food, a cigarette or a lighter. It is absolutely acceptable to turn down any requests, but please remember they are human beings and be kind.
