Station is 12 minutes walk from my house. Frequent trains further west to Plymouth, Totnes, Paignton, Torquay, Penzance. Totnes is an attractive small town with artsy shops, and river boat trips to Dartmouth at high tide. Dartmouth is a lovely harbour with many boats, and a town on a steep hill. It is accessible by steam train from Paignton (£25) or bus from Paignton bus station opposite Paignton Train station.

Just 10 mins by train from St. Davids, Dawlish Warren has a long beach and a large area of sand dunes are a nature reserve, with many birds in winter and rare plants and flowers. Its possible to walk all around the nature reserve, but allow 2 hours, as sand dunes can be heavy going. At low tide it is possible to walk eastwards, all around by beach on the flat. There are cafes and amusements for children close to the station. In the other direction, westwards its possible to follow the path by the railtrack, all the way to Dawlish Town and Teignmouth, the South West Coast Path.
