Virtually on your doorstep, Daredevil Adventures provides a quad-biking experience just around the corner. They offer guided tours through the dunes. No experience necessary, the quads are easy to operate.

Just as you enter/leave Swakopmund at the Swakopmund river bridge, you'll find a premier adventure centre. Quad-biking tours and Camel rides are available here. We suggest combining a quad-biking tour with dune boarding for a really fun experience. Be prepared for lots of sand in your hair and ears.

Ideal for the young and the young-at-heart. If you're an aspiring Formula-1 driver, this fun activity will satisfy adrenaline junkies. Located just outside Swakopmund off the B2 going inland. Look for their big sign, or use Google Maps to find them.

A morning spent fishing on the ocean or from the beach is a must for keen anglers. Fishing from a boat is typically more successful. Most operators allow you to keep your catch. Shark fishing is catch and release. Take seasick tablets in advance if you have a tendency to get woozy.

Preferably visit on a sunny day and take some water with you to rinse off afterwards. This visit can be combined with Cape Cross for a worthwhile day trip. There is no charge for this activity.

They don't make them like this any more. The historical Hansa Hotel is good for a dinner, but our favourite late night activity is to visit the bar for a nightcap. Top hint: Order a Colonial Coffee for a special experience. If you're lucky, a pianist may be playing something mellow.

Sightseeing
You are in the middle of a sightseeing mecca. Most of these are free activities, with the exception of nominal day entry to Cape Cross Seal Reserve and pleasure flights.
Swakopmund's main beach and promenade. In peak season the beach will be packed with sunworshippers. The "Mole" was colonial Germany's first attempt at a harbour, but it quickly silted up, forcing them to build the Jetty.

Flamingo sightings in abundance available free at the Walvis Bay Lagoon. Spot both Greater and Lesser Flamingoes as well as a myriad other wetland species at this popular Ramsar site. If you don't find the lesser flamingo, travel a little further around the lagoon past the Salt Works.

This is a little further afield, but worth a day trip. Cape Cross is where Portuguese navigator Diego Cao raised a cross in 1485. It is now a home to thousands of Cape Fur seals. Combine this visit with a lunch at Cape Cross lodge and a swim in Namibia's own Dead Sea.
If you're travelling North on a day trip, stop off at the easily accessible Zeila Shipwreck for a quick photo opportunity. In 2008 she was being towed to be scrapped when the cable broke and she drifted ashore here to add another wreck to the Skeleton coast, and is now a practical nesting platform for sea birds.

30km North of Swakopmund (en-route to Cape Cross), you'll pass the quaint holiday hamlet of Wlotzkasbaken with it's colourful architecture and water towers. The locals call it a "small drinking village with a big fishing problem". It is worth a sightseeing drive-through.

Shopping
These are our grocery shopping recommendations. The centre of Swakopmund is ideal for boutique shopping on foot.
We usually buy our groceries here, as we have found it to be the cleanest, best stocked Supermarket in town. Tops Bottle Store at the entrance is where you can pick up your favourite drinks.
