Reunite with nature at the newly renovated log cabin Lodge at Taconic Ridge. Hundreds of acres of Taconic mountain wilderness and hiking are accessible from the backyard of this home located as the last house on a quiet dead-end road.
Fresh, clean, spacious, and open concept, the lodge has all of the amenities that we enjoy most when traveling, and pet friendly too. Head out to explore all that the southern Vermont tri-state area has to offer, or bring groceries and never have to go out!

Whether you start your day with coffee/tea on the porch, a shower in the new (seasonal) outdoor shower, or yoga on the lawn, you’ll find plenty of vantage point options to settle into. Hit the trails for a great hike (with the dog?), and return to the lodge to find all the tools you need to cook up a yummy meal. Finish the day with a drink on the deck or by the fire (firewood provided), and a restorative soak in the new hot tub. We hope when you depart the lodge, you feel rested, revived, and that the peaceful feelings of your time at the lodge stay with you.

When you arrive to the lodge what you’ll notice first is the quiet. This 1,900 square foot home is located as the last house at the top of the hill on a quiet dead-end road. The neighboring property below is barely visible through the trees so you’ll feel like you’re on the edge of the world with the mountain ridge behind you. The view of Mt. Anthony “closes” when the leaves come on in spring, and “reopens” in the fall. There is plenty of space for parking in the private driveway, and well-lit porches for enjoyment and access. This home has 2 brand new full bathrooms, along with replaced or refinished floors throughout. The kitchen has custom cabinetry, Vermont soapstone countertops, and all of the cooking/dining tools you’ll need (complete list is available). The dining table comfortably seats 8, and all of the furnishings are new. A new highchair is available for guests visiting with children, along with a new propane gas grill on the rear covered porch. A washer and dryer is available for guest use as well in the main level mudroom.

All of the lodge’s 4 bedrooms have new beds and bedding to keep you comfortable, along with available window shades on each window. Each room is equipped with a hanging mirror, side tables, and bedside clocks with USB plug-ins for device charging. Fans are available in every bedroom in case you rely on the noise or breeze for sleeping (like us).
The “Maple” King Bed Room – Located on the 2nd floor, the lodge’s King master bedroom is spacious. There is plenty of space to setup our new pack and play if you are visiting with a baby as well. There is a walk-in closet space with hanging and shelf space for unpacking and settling in. The master also has it’s own 40” wall TV.
The “Birch” Queen Bed Room – Located on the 2nd floor, this Queen bedroom has a closet with hanging and shelf space for unpacking, and storing your bag during your stay.
The “Pine” Twin Bed Room – Located on the 2nd floor, the Twin bedroom has 2 twin beds, and a closet with hanging and shelf space for unpacking, and storing your bag during your stay. An available bedside rail can be installed upon request to keep little ones secure.
The “Oak” Queen Bed Room – Located on the main floor, this Queen bedroom has 2 luggage racks for handling your bag storage during your stay.

The lodge has Xfinity cable high speed internet to easily handle your streaming or remote work needs. Stream your favorite shows or movies on the Smart TV, and please note that local/cable TV is not included.

We provide ground coffee for use in the new coffee maker or French press, along with a few basic pantry items including: sugar, flour, olive oil, vegetable oil, salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, mayo, basic spices and seasonings.
Sponges, paper towels, napkins, dish/dishwasher soaps are included, as are shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soaps, and laundry detergent.

A centrally located mini-split heat pump keeps guest comfortable with air conditioning in the summer months, and serves as supplemental heat in the cooler seasons. The lodge’s furnace will keep you warm and cozy with just the turn of the dial. Additionally, the lodge’s new soapstone woodstove offers the warmth that only wood heat can, and is available upon advance request for "guided" guest use.
Please note that the cooling and heating elements of the lodge are centrally located due to the open loft. This means that guests may want to leave bedroom doors open while sleeping to fully receive the air conditioning or heat, or close the bedroom doors/open bedroom windows to be warmer or cooler as desired.

We have a flagged uphill hiking trail exiting from the back yard, that joins the “main trail” after a short distance. Once on the flagged “main trail” you may encounter other hikers and dogs, but most often you’ll have it to yourself. The “main trail” continues across private and public lands so please be mindful and tread lightly-carry in/carry out. Please note that the first “leg” of this hike is uphill, and we would rate the overall trail as “moderate” in terms of difficulty due to the ascent, and the loose footing (loose leaves, rocks, acorns) on sections of the descent. With a steady pace on the flagged main trail, you’ll hike for about an hour in a loop back to the lodge. At one junction along the flagged trail, you’ll see an option to head out onto the unflagged Taconic Ridge trails. Please note that those portions of the trail extend for miles to the north and are unflagged. The Taconic Ridge trails are traveled by other hikers, and contain plenty of “Y’s” in the trail. We recommend the Taconic Ridge trails to more experienced hikers familiar with navigating, and we suggest carrying trail markers to navigate your outbound route, and safe return to the lodge.

Well-mannered, house-trained dogs are welcome at the Lodge!
Limit of 2 dogs/pets per booking, and unfortunately no puppies are allowed.
We are happy to offer a pet-friendly option for guests since it’s always a point of concern for us when traveling with our dog. Dog feeding/watering station is provided, along with a raised portable dog bed that we can wash/hose down between guests if needed. A few dog toys are provided, and we’re not concerned if your dog has a little too much fun with these and they wind up destroyed. We’ve included a few dog towels if your dog gets wet or dirty out on your adventures. A dog crate is available to use as well.
We do request the following from guests traveling with dogs:
Please no dogs that bark constantly. We understand all dogs bark at times, but please take steps to ensure that your dogs needs are met so that he/she can settle in.
Please no dogs on the new furniture or white bedding.
The neighboring property is home to children, a dog, a cat, and chickens. If your dog is a potential threat to any of these neighbors, please consider leaving your dog at home, or be very vigilant in keeping your dog leashed when outside.
Despite the fact that you’ll likely have the immediate hiking trail to yourself, please keep your dog leashed at all times on the trail. You could encounter other hikers with dogs, as well as other threats that exist to dogs in nature (skunks, porcupines, etc). Our best animal friends can be unpredictable in their reactions to new things.

Please reach out if you would like information on area summer camp options for kids!

Shaftsbury, Vermont, Bandaríkin

The southern Vermont tri-state area is packed with activities, shopping, skiing, and excellent dining, and we have plenty of suggestions of our favorites based on your specific quests, so please feel free to reach out. Manchester is located 25 minutes to the north and has many options for fine dining, designer outlets, arts, and recreation. There are many state park lakes in the area as well.
The lodge sits on West Mountain which is part of the Taconic Mountain range. The Taconics are home to a thriving wildlife population, and beautiful forests and streams which help to improve air and water quality for all. Healthy forests allow soil to absorb more water during droughts and floods, and pull carbon from the atmosphere—increasingly important as the climate changes.
