You can expect to restore and recharge in a harmonious and thoughtfully appointed yurt set on a private knoll overlooking beautiful Vermont fields and woods. Please note: If you are visiting in the cold months, please let us know you've read the NOVEMBER -APRIL VISITORS section below!

Everything in the space has been chosen with care and love. There are comfortable chairs, a lovely woodstove, and beautiful light throughout. A firepit awaits under the trees.

The deck is a great spot to listen to the birds, have a drink, read your book, and just be. Everything you need to make lovely meals is in the simple but thoughtfully crafted kitchen.

The mattress is organic and we pride ourselves on our comfortable and well-made beds, with lovely linens and two kinds of pillows. The composting outhouse is ten steps from the door and connected to the deck. It is scrupulously clean and nicer than you might expect.

The yurt is very private, and at the same time, you will get a sense of the abundant beauty of homesteading life in Vermont with gardens, medicine plants, abundant vegetables, pastures, fields and woods just outside your door (all changing with the seasons of course).

For families: the yurt is 20' in diameter and contains one full-sized bed. If you have a little one who is comfortable camping out on the floor, we are happy to provide a camping pad. Note that the woodstove in winter is hot to the touch.

We have a very special and extensive Area Guide we will share with you with all our favorite places to go in southern Vermont.

****In your reservation request, please acknowledge you have read and understood the four important points below. Please also comment on any woodstove experience you might have****

We are usually fully-booked in the winter, and that is because the yurt is a wonderful and cozy place to be in the cold season. That said, there are some unique aspects to yurting in winter that you should review and feel good about:

1. Making fire in a wood stove is a lovely thing, AND, you must do it well in order to stay warm. If you have never worked with a wood stove before, plan on a) being patient while you learn b) spending some time really reading the detailed instructions we have left you, OR c) come during another season. We would also highly recommend you come before dark rather than late at night. To be perfectly transparent: the great majority of our first time wood stove guests do fine. But a small minority of folks struggle with it (~ 5-10%). We are available by phone until about 7, and then turn into pumpkins. For more objective voices, feel free to scroll through our winter reviews.

2. There is an outdoor shower that we turn off for the cold season to avoid burst pipes. If having a shower is important to you, turning the shower on may be possible with a quick lesson and deposit. In certain conditions, we may not be able to offer this as an option in order to protect the plumbing. There is always hot and cold running water in the sink inside, with good soap and towels.

3. You will walk, possibly in snowy or slippery conditions, about 150 feet from your parking spot to the yurt. That said, it's an easy walk, and we provide a big sled to transport your things.

We are Hans (a life long Vermonter) and Kathleen, who moved here from from Northern California in 2016. Between us we have four teenagers (two still at home), and have built our small farm homestead together over the last few years.

Our time is spent working on the land, growing food, building stuff, cleaning up after kids, animals and weedy gardens, and when we can, hiking, skiing, paddling and just being.

We share a vision of life as a brief and beautiful gift, and we both endeavor to practice presence, self care, and right action every day. We are in relationship with our beautiful land here, and we believe that caring for the soil, plants and trees creates an abiding and beautiful mutual relationship.

We offer two short-term rentals here, a cottage and a four-season yurt. We love to welcome visitors to put daily life down and re-set, restore, explore and have fun!
