Lagunitas, Kalifornía, Bandaríkin

We are located in Marin County in the forested, tranquil San Geronimo Valley, surrounded by rolling hills, douglas fir, oak and bay trees. Nearby, there are fine hiking trails, superb redwood tree groves, excellent restaurants and wine tasting. World class beaches, hiking, biking and equestrian facilities are a short drive.

If you or your children have not seen the giant redwood trees, that truly is a must do. In this regard, our home is about 8 minutes from Samuel P Taylor State Park, where there are magnificent redwood trees, many right next to the Lagunitas Creek. This experience is highly similar to visiting Muir Woods but you do not need to park, take a bus and wait in long lines with a huge crowd of people. Samuel P Taylor Park is a mystical place … children & adults can walk right into the hallowed out base of some giant redwood trees. Plan a picnic ... the kids love playing in the creek.

Point Reyes National Seashore has over 30 named beaches. With that many beaches it's hard to decide where to go. Some of the beaches are only accessible with a boat or kayak on Tomales Bay. The many beaches near us offer adults and kids great joy!

Our two favorite and easily accessible beaches are Stinson Beach and Limantaur Beach.

In addition to its spectacular beach, the village of Stinson Beach also features a quaint town, good restaurants, art galleries, surf shop, etc.

Point Reyes National Seashore Headquarters is about 20 minutes from our Lagunitas home. At the headquarters, Park Rangers will explain the extensive site. Pt Reyes National Seashore was established to preserve and protect wilderness, natural ecosystems, and cultural resources along the diminishing undeveloped coastline of the western United States.
The Seashore is a sanctuary for myriad plant and animal species and for the human spirit—for discovery, inspiration, solitude, and recreation—and exists as a reminder of the human connection to the land.
Marine biologists have identified nearly a third of all known marine mammal species in the waters surrounding Point Reyes. Blue whales and humpback whales feed there during spring and summer months. Gray whales migrate past the shores twice a year on their round trip from Alaska to Baja.

The Point Reyes National Seashore Visitor Center on Bear Valley Road is a fantastic opportunity for children & adults. There is a natural history museum, maps of all the hiking trails, Miwok Indian cultural experiences AND, across the road, the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Trail … it’s just a short hike, but very memorable.

On the way to Stinson Beach is the "Five Brooks Horseback Riding" facility. You can take short or all day trips inland or to the seashore.

Nearby Tomales Bay features “Blue Waters Kayaking”, a full service kayaking outfitter.

Local Restaurants & Deli:
Lagunitas Grocery & Deli is just at the bottom of our hill. It features an extensive deli. The owners create marvelous home cooked breakfasts served in a quaint dining space where locals gather.

“Arti Restaurant", also just at the bottom of our hill, features Indian fare and gets RAVE reviews.

"Two Bird Cafe at the Valley Inn", about a mile away, provides very fine American food dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a charming outdoor dining deck. In season, the "Two Bird" serves fresh or barbequed oysters.

The town of Fairfax is about 15 minutes away ... LOTS of great live music, movie theater, restaurants (including fine Sushi), and coffee shops.

The village of Nicasio, about 10-15 minutes away, features the "Rancho Nicasio” restaurant, an old fashioned saloon type of building. Movie celebrities have been known to visit there when visiting director George Lucas' ranch down the road. The "Rancho" has lunches, dinners and music in the evenings ... on the weekends they host live lawn concerts with BBQ food ... makes for a GREAT day!

Lots of fresh, organic, local food, cheese and organic markets ... no shortage of gluten free offerings. The "Good Earth" market in Fairfax is all organic.
The Fairfax Farmer's Market is on Wednesday from 4 - 8 pm.
The local San Geronimo Valley Organic Food Stand is open daily.

There are glorious hiking trails right from our driveway ... do a search and all of them will pop up. We're also happy to give you ideas when you arrive.

My husband, Joe, & I have lived in the same house in west Marin near San Francisco for 50 years; we were newspaper publishers for 35 years, now retired. Originally from Michigan, Joe's Navy career brought him to San Diego and eventually to the Bay Area, where Joe decided the "music was better". As newly weds in 1971, we purchased a small, turn of the century woodsy cabin from two distinguished writer/poets: Adrien Stoutenburg and Laura Baker. According to themselves, the years the writers lived on this property were their most creative and productive years. Joe and I named our Chimney Lane cabin "Three Roses" and while raising our three sons here, gradually rebuilt our "cabin" into a large, comfortable home. Since retirement, we have been more focused on the outdoor spaces of our one acre hillside property, redesigning our decks, upgrading our pool and jacuzzi, creating extensive garden & sitting areas, planting a fruit tree orchard (plum, pear, apple, fig, nectarine and lemon), building a large putting green for adults and a carpeted children's play area for the kids and grandkids. Whew!!! Our home has always been a welcoming center for our large extended family. When we became empty nesters, it was natural for us to move into sharing all of the above with Airbnb guests. Joe and I greatly enjoy travel, golf, local wineries, reading and entertaining family and Airbnb guests. Welcome to "Thee Roses" and Enjoy your stay!
