We were advised by Airbnb that Tree house was in the top 10 houses requested by guests in NZ in 2017.

The tree house is a modern open plan studio built 5 years ago on a stunning 2,000 square metre very private tree covered section which runs down to the beach. The property enjoys all day sun and views over Wellington harbour.

Eignin
The tree house is a modern open plan near new architecturally designed studio built on a stunning 2,000 square metre very private tree covered section which runs down to the beach. The property enjoys all day sun and views over Wellington harbour.
It has a modern kitchen and bathroom with washing machine, dishwasher, small television and radio CD player. There is a BBQ on the large deck and for the brave, a heated outside bath set into the hill side over looking Lowry Bay. (This bath is currently under repair)
Access to the tree house is via a long drive way to a car deck for parking. The studio enjoys walk on access off the car deck. Three bicycles are provided for guest use.

Please also note that the treehouse is built high up in and is surrounded by trees. The trees flower and attract birds, insects and from time to time ants in summer. As a consequence it is almost impossible to stop small numbers of insects and ants from entering the cottage. We do not like to spray and poison too much in such a beautiful environment. If you are going to be a upset finding a live or dead ant or moth in the cottage this booking is not for you. We take a lot of pride in cleaning the treehouse but it may sit empty for a day or two before you arrive. We leave some windows open to air the property and a moth, spider or ant may visit between our clean and your arrival. They are part of life and we are in their environment not the other way around. When we sleep in the Tree House we often sleep with the doors open. In summer it is glorious.

We mostly live on an adjacent site in a cottage separate from and well blow the tree house. We can meet guests if they need assistance or advice.

York Bay is one of a necklace of bays on the sunny eastern side of Wellington harbour. Bikeways, bush walks and ferries connect the bays to Eastbourne, Hutt City and Wellington. Nature rules. It can be calm, but it can also be windy and wild. Native birds and even deer come on to the property to steal the fruit.

Busses and ferries connect York Bay to Eastbourne, Hutt City and Wellington. They run on the 1/2 hour during the rush hours but are less frequent for the rest of the day. A car is probably best.

We are happy to have agreed pets to stay provided they are kept off all furniture but we may add a special cleaning fee. Please talk to us about your pet. The property is not fenced, but the decks can be closed off to keep most pets secure.

Things to do :

Bicycle riding
The Rimutaka Cycle Trail has been named one of the world's hottest travel experiences for 2015 by travel guide Lonely Planet, it passes through York Bay. Our tenants usually ride the bikes to Eastbourne direction till the historic light house on the hill, or ride along the Hutt River towards Lower Hutt for the galleries and fair market during the Trail way.

Walks and Tracks
1.All of the tracks leading from the cottage are within the property and you can walk right down to the beach at Lowery Bay. On a Saturday morning it is fun as you can buy fresh fish from a fishing boat that comes into the marina. The track at the base of the property is steep so take care. We have not made it too easy as we value our privacy and don’t want strangers wondering up from the road and stealing our plums.

2.The Regional Council has built walking tracks through the original park from York Bay to Lowery Bay and Days Bay. It’s about 1 hour to Days Bay. The tracks leave from the end of Kaitawa Road, the entrance is exactly in York Bay, where the tree house is located. (See the brochures in the tree house).

Good Swimming Beaches
Days Bay, York Bay and Eastbourne get the summer beaches.

Coffee & bars ,galleries, shopping

Days Bay, Eastbourne, Petone or Lower Hutt all have their own charming attractions, check them online, you will find all the details.
The nearest shops are at Days Bay, Eastbourne, Petone or Lower Hutt. The Eastbourne village, which is about 4 km away does have a small supermarket and associated shops and restaurants. It also has an ATM machine. It’s a nice place. Petone’s main street, Jackson street is also interesting. Lower Hutt has a mall if that is what you need.
