John McDouall Stuart View is a one-bedroom apartment which sleeps 2 (or 3 with a camp bed), located in the quiet village, Dysart. The apartment is based in a restored Period building across the first and second floor. On the first floor there is a spacious living/dining area, and the opportunity to take in the stunning views of the Firth and Forth. On the second floor there is a large bedroom with sea views and a Superking bed (that can also be made into two singles) as well a separate bathroom

Within the living room there is a Smart TV with DVD player, a selection of DVD’s and books. The lounge area has one armchair and a three-seater couch. A washing machine/dryer is located in a cupboard off the living room. Off the living room is a well-equipped kitchen with hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and fridge. Within the kitchen you will find all of the essentials that you would need in a kitchen, including tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper.

On the upper floor is a comfortable double bedroom with sloped ceiling and lovely sea views. The bed can be made up as a super-king bed or two singles. (Please confirm which set up you would like when booking). We can provide a third guest with a camp bed set up in the bedroom as well. Should you also need a cot/high-chair these are available on request. There is also a modern bathroom with toilet, sink and shower on the upper level next to the bedroom. Freshly-laundered towels and bed-linen are all provided.

This is a non-smoking property and we do not allow pets. The property is based up a set of stone steps and there are stairs within the property. There is no lift access. There is plenty of parking on the street outside the apartment and on the high street behind the property.

Just a few minutes away at Dysart Harbour, some key scenes from Outlander was filmed.

John McDouall Stuart View is an ideal stopping-off point if you are en-route to the Highlands, looking for close links to Fife's world-famous golf courses, or walking the Fife Coastal Path. The apartment is owned by Fife Historic Buildings Trust, a local Building Preservation Trust. It is a company limited by guarantee and has charitable status. It was formed in 1997 primarily for the purpose of saving and restoring historic buildings in Fife which are at risk. We are very proud of our beautiful historic building and would love to welcome you here.

John McDouall Stuart was born in this house in 1815 and later emigrated ‘down under’ where he led the first expedition to cross Australia from south to north in 1862. He is a celebrated figure in Australia, where he has a 950-mile highway named after him. The holiday apartment occupies the upper two floors of a three-storey B-listed building. The rooms have been decorated in keeping with the style of the building, retaining period features, such as the window shutters.

John McDouall Stuart View apartment is located in the quiet historic village of Dysart, on the outside of Kirkcaldy in the Kingdom of Fife. Dysart is situated on the east coast of Scotland and the apartment is just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. Key scenes in Series 2 of 'Outlander' were filmed at Dysart Harbour. Wander around the harbour, have a coffee and cake in the Harbourmaster's House and see why this pretty seaside spot was picked as the setting for the Jacobite drama that has enthralled millions.

Within the village there is a small grocery shop, pharmacy, Post Office and a lovely kitchen deli farm shop called Nourish. Kirkcaldy is just a few minutes’ drive away and large supermarkets, high-street stores, bars and cafes can be found here.

Travel: Dysart is easily reached by road and is about a 45-minute drive from Edinburgh. Airlines that fly to Edinburgh from other parts of the UK include FlyBe, EasyJet, Ryanair and British Airways. There are several car hire companies at Edinburgh airport. There is plenty of space for parking on the street outside the apartment.

Golfers will find plenty to keep them busy! Fife boasts over 45 famous, historic and challenging golf courses. Dysart is about a 40 minute drive from the world-famous home of golf, St Andrews, with its seven courses, including the famous Old Course. Other courses nearby include Ladybank Golf Club, Lundin Golf Links and Scotscraig Golf Course. The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship takes place over three venues - Kingsbarns, the Old Course at St Andrews and Carnoustie in Angus - every October.

The beautiful fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife such as Crail, Anstruther, Pittenweem, St Monans and Elie are easily reached by car, as are the historic towns of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy.
Kirkcaldy railway station is a 10-minute drive away and provides easy access to Edinburgh and the north. From Kirkcaldy station, which is only a few minutes’ drive away, there is a frequent train service across the famous Forth Bridge, straight into the heart of Edinburgh. In the capital you can visit the famous Castle, Edinburgh Zoo, Sir Walter Scott's Monument, the Scottish Parliament Buildings, and the newly refurbished National Museum of Scotland. In the summer, take in a show at the famous Edinburgh Festival or military Tattoo. There is high-street and designer shopping on Princes Street and George Street, or you can enjoy the many bars, cafes and restaurants before returning by train to put your feet up in your ‘coastal retreat’!
