History buffs of the old west will appreciate a visit to old Lincoln where you can check out the courthouse where Billy escaped and lots more. Cute shops, coffee, and events many weekends!

This most widely visited state monument in New Mexico is part of a community frozen in time—the 1870's and 1880's. Walk in the footsteps of Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, and other famous and infamous characters of the Wild West.

This well-preserved old west town was the stomping grounds of Billy the Kid. There are several museums here now where you can learn about the history of the area, the Lincoln County War, and Billy the Kid and his crew. It’s nice to drive the loop from Ruidoso to Hondo, stopping at the Hurd Gallery described above, then turn left on Highway 380 to Old Lincoln and Capitan, then take Highway 48 back to Ruidoso. The views are beautiful.
