When you first step foot onto the 163 acres of Eden Gardens State Park, you feel as if you’re being transported back in time – back to an era where hoop skirts, oil paintings, and Victorian-style architecture decorated a land rich with opportunity. Today, Eden Gardens State Park – its tranquil gardens, nature trails, picnic and gathering areas, and most importantly, its history – can be enjoyed 365 days a year until sundown… from sitting on the white rocking chairs that line the mansion’s wraparound porch, to holding hands with loved ones beneath the famous 600-year-old Wedding Tree, to resting on the banks of the bayou with a fishing pole in hand.

The highlight of the 163-acre Eden Gardens State Park is the Historic Wesley House, where you can learn about the family who built it, one of the first to settle in the Point Washington area. Built in 1897, the home is a beautiful two-story mansion with dramatic white columns and a classic wrap-around porch. The majestic home, surrounded with mossy live oaks, will take you to a bygone era of southern prosperity. You’ll also learn about the home’s benefactress, Ms. Lois Maxon, who purchased it and renovated it extensively before donating the property to the Florida Park Service in 1968. Another highlight of the park is the beautifully manicured ornamental gardens. Including a heritage rose garden, butterfly garden, and secret garden with paths winding through the grounds, the early spring months are an enviable time to visit Eden Gardens State Park Florida and see it in bloom. Originally designed and planned for Ms. Maxon, the gardens and grounds feature showstopping azaleas and over 250 camellias. Wander through the grounds and you might even find yourself at a quiet reflection pond, filled with koi fish and water lilies. If you want to go fishing or paddling on the Intracoastal Waterway or the Choctawhatchee Bay, the park has a boat launch on Tucker Bayou, which connects to both bodies of water. Other activities include hiking, picnicking, and a screened pavilion with kitchen and bathroom that is available to rent for meetings or reunions.
