As with most historic places, there are several stories surrounding the origins of the street’s unique name. The most popular one goes that in the old days, Concubine Lane was where rich Chinese tycoons and British officers kept their mistresses. These days, the area has been rebuilt with hipster cafes, gift and local handcraft shops. Not to mention there is so much good local food around the area too. People from all ages will surely enjoy this place!

Concubine Lane (or Yi Lai Hong in Cantonese) is a narrow, uneven path, in Old Town Ipoh, believed to have been established in 1908. Concubine Lane became a residential area where many rich Chinese magnate and British officers were supposed to have kept their concubines and mistresses in the townhouse there.
