The oldest cinema in continuous service! A traditional balcony theatre layout, showing current block busters, special events, and arthouse movies. Wonderful!

The Magic Lantern has been here since 1893. First built as the town assembly rooms. With proof of film showings happening here since 1900, the Magic Lantern Cinema was showing film 9 years earlier than any other operating Cinema in Britain. It now has an awesome Sony 4K (3D) digital projection system with Dolby 7.1 surround sound: that's about the best equipment any cinema could wish for! They also have a fully stocked bar and two stages for their live events. Food also available. Check website for shows times and booking.
