The Cathedral and indeed Elgin, was once known as ‘the lantern o’ the north’ ... at least until the Wolf of Badenoch burned it down in 1390. What remains is an extremely well preserved beauty in traditional stone masonry. Do visit. It is gorgeous, interesting and the tour guides are very well…

The cathedral was burnt down in 1390 by the Wolf of Badenoch in a dispute over the power of the church.

“The Copperdog at The Craigellachie is a stylish pub/restaurant in the hotel serving fabulous food and of course whisky. The atmosphere is relaxed and service aways friendly. Also hosts live music. Instagram: @copperdogpub”

“On the banks of the Spey, with a fine selection of whiskies, a good menu, lunch and dinner available.”

“It is the range of produce that impresses at the Spey Larder. As the name would suggest, it is the perfect place to stock up on all the deli larder basics, both continental and local - Connads cheese is a favourite, as is Ola rapeseed oil. A large selection of locally-caught fish, artisan cheeses and pâté is stocked, as well as fantastic bread. It has a good selection of local real ale and local wines, as well as wines from more far-flung destinations. Open 0900-1730 except Sunday.”

“This typical Scottish pub lies in the centre of Speyside and houses enough whiskies to whet all appetites. You can count on it for a hearty meal and good company. Best on the weekends... ;)”
