Hiring our self-drive boat or a boat with crew is a great way to experience the canal. A great day out for all the family.
Beautiful Union Canal that runs from Falkirk to Edinburgh. Great for walking or cycling. Boat hire from Edinburgh Canal Boat hire or have fun Akwakat water biking from Lochrin Basin. Bridge Inn Ratho is a lovely place to stop for refreshments.
You can take various trips on the canal, which goes over a stunning aqueduct over the avon gorge. Some trips even take you to the Falkirk wheel. There is a tea room at the Canal Centre, where once a year there is our annual fun day with a cardboard boat race which is always worth a watch!
Take a trip on a canal boat or walk along the canal side, stopping for a coffee and browse through the small museum at the canal centre
Visit Linlithgow, see the Palace, lunch at Champany and maybe take a walk along the canal.

“One of my favourite restaurants, though it's a rare visit for me as it's pricy! The Witchery by the Castle. (top of the Royal Mile) has a wonderful atmosphere whether it’s winter or summer. If you want a special night out with a sense of Edinburgh history and atmosphere this is a great choice. It’s right next to Edinburgh Castle, the food is excellent and the staff are great. A two-course lunch is about £25. Dinner about £30 per main meal.”
