Named after chimney remnant of original French settlement built in 1731. Tavern/inn built on site later and hosted many famous travelers including Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.. Building is now a museum and is across lake from Crown Point ruins.
This is a beautiful spot on the lake. The museum was very good for history buffs (like me). There was plenty of room to park walk around picnic etc. You are close to many sites in NY too. There is only basic amenities here and near by so plan for that.
